How do you pronounce Solveig?

This should probably be a poll because I can’t seem to get any hard answers.

I keep seeing baby name guides saying that Solveig should be pronounced, Sool-vay, but then I go to youtube and everyone seems to be voicing the hard g at the end.

I’ve heard:

Saul (like Better Call) - vigh- g (like sigh with a g at the end)

Sol (like the Sun) - vague (like these pronunciation guides)

Sool (like Zuul) - vig (like vigorish)
Let’s lay down the law here, people. What are we going to use for Solveig, henceforth? Can we get a consensus or do we give up and call her “Duck breath”.

The name is Norwegian. Here, the g is hard or silent depending on dialect. So sool-vey or sool-veyg. Don’t overdo the hard g if you use it.

There are just as many Swedes called Solveig, and there the pronunciation is also the silent g.

Or you could go Icelandic and practice pronouncing it like the ch in German ich.

I don’t know but I hope we’re close to Solveig this problem:)

Oh great, now I’ve got “Solveig Solveig” stuck in my brain: MIDDLE OF THE ROAD - SOLEY SOLEY 1971 - YouTube

Just give up and name the kid “Trendy And Irritating”. She’ll be equally tired of explaining the name whenever she’s introduced. But at least everybody will be able to spell it.

Unlike Solveig.

I thought “don’t name your kid something you can’t even pronounce” was already the first rule of parenting.

The answer, BTW, is “Throatwobbler Mangrove”.

Pronounced “Luxury Yacht”.

Or is that the spelling and “Throatwobbler Mangrove” is the pronounciation? These pretentious foreign names always confuse simple 'Merkins like myself.

I’m sure “Solveig” is a beautiful & common-enough name in Norway or Sweden. Which every Sven, Ole, and Hildegaard can instantly recognize, pronounce, and spell.

Over here, not so much.
