I say:
“Hey! Idiot!”
or
“Hey! Idiots!”
Ask you I shall! “Plinky”???!!!
Oh, and sometimes I say “yo” instead of “you.”
The Youghal thing is classic!
I use “yiz” and “youse” depending on the context, for example “Get in here the lot of yiz” but “Youse lot get in here this minute!”.
When in bogland, do as the boggers. I sometimes say “ye”, but more often just say “you”, anything but Dublinese to avoid a 2 hour slagging match.
In professional settings, or now when talking english with non-english speakers, I generally use a standard “you”. When typing online I often use “you all” or “y’all” since many people don’t seem to catch a plural-you and can feel hopped on.
Plural - Youse. It’s awful, but it’s a habbit I’ve fallen into.
“Y’all” is my ONLY concession to a Texas accent. My Baltimore cousins make fun of me for saying it, but I even know native northerners (which I am technically, although I only lived in Illinois until I was about 18 months old) who say it. It’s a handy word, after all!
And “you” for singular, or “ya” sometimes when online/being casual.
Yo.
And “y’all” when plural.
Singular: you.
Plural: depends;
casual: y’all;
semiformal/business/formal: you folks, everybody, everyone.
When I lived in Flahduh, I refused to use “y’all”. Just didn’t want to be like everyone else, I guess. Now that I live in the PNW, I like to use “y’all” because it’s different. I’m sorta perverse that way.
I hate it when people spell “y’all” as “ya’ll”, or pronounce it “ya all”. I really hate “youse” and “youse guys”, and I don’t really like “you guys”, either (as I’m not a guy).
I’ve heard “ye” in Newfoundland too. (The possesive form being “yeir”)
