How do you sleep?

Face down, on my stomach, with a pillow balled up under my forehead so there is room to breathe. If the cat is trying to chew off my fingernails, my hands are underneth me. If it’s cool weather, I’ll tend to sleep with the covers over my head. I’ve had some pretty serious injuries to my back and learned to sleep this way. Now it’s the only way I can sleep.

On my left side, sometimes halfway on my stomach. Usually hugging a pillow.

I try to sleep on my side, but end up on my stomach. Unfortunately, that is said to exacerbate reflux (which I have), and most days I wake up with a burning belly.

Me too, but on my left. I start out the same way, but never stay in that position for long. See, I’m a thrasher. I’ve unknowingly kicked, kneed and elbowed my poor hubby for almost 3 years now. He said yesterday that I woke him up at 2:15, pulling his hair.

I’ve been nagging him to get his damned hair cut. Maybe he’ll get a clue.

Uh that would be the right side, Bob…

On my stomach.

I fall asleep on my stomach, and wake up on my back.

My wife tells me that I spend most of the night shifting positions and elbowing her the in the head. I have no idea why she tells lies like that.

I fall asleep on my stomach, arms tucked under me and ankles crossed, with head to the left. Sometimes I try sleeping on my side, but sleeping on my stomach seems to put me right out the best. :dubious:

I wake up on my left side, kind of curled up like a dying shrimp with the blankets half off the bed.

Like the other posters, I’m a restless sleeper - I tend to thrash.

I usually fall asleep on my left side. Occasionally, for whatever reason, I can’t seem to find a comfortable position on that side and end up going to sleep on my back or my right side. But I think about 80% of the time, I do end up going to sleep on my left side.

I used to thrash around during sleep, as indicated by position of sheet and blanket each morning, but not so much any more.

I usually fall asleep on my right side and wake up in the same position, although I’m sure I must change during the night.
If I’m napping though, I usually end up unintentionally falling asleep on my stomach, in which case I tend to drool. So, I try not to do that.

I fall asleep on my left side but I have to switch positions every once in a while because my baby is with me and I have become a human pacifier.

Before Bella I pretty much slept like a rock on my left side, one pillow under my head and another turned sideways, partially under my head with my arm hugging it.

Same here. Somehow my older cat knows when my back hurts and will lay on it. Not sure how she does it but she can stay on top through all my rotations (like she’s in a log rolling competition).

I tend to sleep on my left side, which is very hard to do right now because I’m dealing with bruised ribs on that side. So it’s the right side until that’s healed up.

On my left side most of the night, so much so that recently I have back and shoulder problems, then on my stomach for the last couple of hours, after that pre-dawn half-waking.

When I had my first cesarean, I asked for a horizontal bikini line cut, and got it (unusual in Japan, where they favour a vertical cut), but sleeping afterwards was HELL for three weeks. I could not get to my side, even an inch. If I moved that way in the night, it woke me up. I had such a sore back after all those nights of not being able to turn over. The morning I woke up on my side was like three birthdays all in one, and I felt like I could do anything, I had slept so well!

My second cesarean was a vertical smash and grab job, and though as a whole, it was a lot harder on me, I could sleep on my side even from the second night!

I sleep in a skinny strip of bed because somehow Inkleberry manages to take up the rest of it. Often on my stomach or left side. If I sleep on my back, I get hit. She seems to think I snore too loudly, I don’t know what she is talking about, I never hear it.

I’ve woken up on the floor several times. That’s because I sleep walk a lot. Usually I just go back to bed, and they tell me in the morning what I did while sleep walking. I try to deny it, but I know they’re right. It’s embarrassing.

When napping, usually flat on my back; otherwise, on my side, usually clasping the covers between my legs with my arm crooked under the pillow.

It’s a bit of a gamble with me – before I fall asleep, I slowly alternate between positions (as each one becomes uncomfortable) until I eventually drift off. It seems to be harder to get to sleep lying on my back, but I’m more likely to trap an arm in the other positions. I’ll curl up on my side, but lie dead straight on my back or front – one girl informed me that I sleep like a vampire!
