How do you take care of your red ceder wood deck?

Do you treat it regularly? How often, and with what? Or do you let it weather naturally and go grey.

I’ve just hired a local carpenter to build and deck and some fencing on a third of my roof balcony. He says that because the area faces full sun and rain that the nice red cedar wood will turn grey within about a month, unless I treat it. So I guess I have to learn how to treat it. I want to bring out the dark redness of the wood, and retain it for as long as possible, so I think I’m looking at staining it?
