How does illegal immigration affect you personally?

Actually, in the agricultural sector, and especially in Arizona, when they lack a sufficient labor force they rent prisoners at slave labor rates ($1-2 per day) which keeps wages low no matter what.

Due to loopholes in regulatory law that are specific to agriculture, this is not considered an unfair labor practice, which it would be in most industries.

I think that’s an excellent idea. Pay full benefits for three months or so, then reduce it by 5 or 10% per month. I’m surprised I haven’t heard this proposed before.

Well, let’s fix that part of it. For instance, let the free market set the wage. Then let prisons fill in the shortfall at the same fair wage. Let them keep a small amount of it an earmark the rest to go directly to paying down the debt. (Just trying to not incentivize anyone to game the system and make the prisoner option lucrative for anyone.)

I see know reason why any company has a right to workers at a less than market wage.

Reforming argicultural labor law is a monumental task. It would require, at minimum, fundamental changes to federal legislation such as the Fair labor Standards Act, the National Labor Relations Act, something called the Ashurst-Sumner Act that you have never heard of, as well as innumerable state laws.

Better men than you have tried, good luck with that.

There are lots of illegals here in Vegas. Almost as many as AZ and Los Angeles, I’d bet. We still have no state income tax and our sales tax isn’t out of line with most other states. I’m not convinced that illegals drive up taxes by not paying income tax. Here, they pay as many taxes as everyone else, based on their level of consumption.

Personally I don’t think I have been affected by illegal immigration specifically. My neighborhood has gone from mostly white to mostly Hispanic within the past few years, but I don’t know if illegal immigration or just plain old getting out-bred caused it though. Either way the property values have decreased in line with the rest of the city, and crime levels are about the same as before, so me being a minority here doesn’t change much. I haven’t been in a hit-and-run accident or anything like that, but I can see how an illegal would be much more likely to do such a thing. I haven’t gotten sick and had to go to the hospital either, but I know the waits here are typically 6+ hours to see a doctor for emergencies of the non-life threatening variety. Again, not sure if that’s an illegal immigration problem, because I was under the impression that places with virtually no illegal population have the same problem.

No shit, really? God, thank you for figuring that out for me! Well, for all of us really. Man, if I had a brain in my head I would’ve already made that point in this thread…

I mean, especially since the illegals came here and by god forced the employers to give them jobs! What I want to know is, how’d they manage that? Was it a curse? A death stare? Or just straight up threats of violence? I mean, obviously the employer who created the demand has nothing to do with it, right? I mean, there were solid legal employees working these jobs and then the illegals came an muscled them out and the employer threw up his hands and said, “Woe is me, I am helpless! The only option I have is to perpetuate this demand! Woe! Woe!!!”

Wait, what???

I live in Georgia, which has a huge population of illegal “immigrants”.

A) I have been hit and run 3 times by illegals.

B) Our home and many in the neighborhood have burglarized by illegals.

C) Our county school system has to house classrooms in trailers outside of the school,
because of the influx of illegals. We have the budget for who lives here and pays
taxes, but we have to accept any and all children that come along, and all of the
expenses attached; interpreters, materials, buses, drivers, etc. Subsequently, the
approximately 12% of students here illegally drain the resources, cutting into
programs designed for the other students. Class numbers go up, teacher ratios go
down.

D) We had 16 people living in a 3BR (rental) home across the street. That’s
unacceptable from anyone, but guess who does that more than any other group?

E) Their German Shephard was never restrained and viciously attacked my daughter
one day. They refused court orders to restrain the dog, and we eventually had
the dog taken and put down. I suppose white trash folks act that way as well, but
they don’t live near me.

F) Multi-hour waits at the local emergency room because of the number of illegals who
refuse to find and pay a Primary Care Physician. I have 2 neighbors who work there
and are frustrated no end by the sniffles and sprains they care for instead of actual
emergencies. Yes, triage gets the bleeders to the front of the line, but they
shouldn’t be there in the first place. The added bonus of course is, they don’t pay
for shit, so the rest of us pay for them. Auto insurance as well.

G) Double homicide on my street. No, I don’t live in a ghetto or barrio. The comps
on my street are 300K. Mexicans rented a house down the way as a drug
distribution house which is a common tactic in the Atlanta area. They try to stay
un-noticed, but a pickup went south and the shooting started. I don’t need my
children ducking gunfire as they walk home from school.
This is how my family and neighbors are directly affected. The jobs situation, the general crime situation, the cost in billions upon billions stolen from the federal government through medical and welfare programs, as well as housing those criminals who are convicted affect us all.

I want a wall across our southern border with Mexico.
I want anyone who crosses the wall illegally shot on sight.
I want the survivors deported.
I want my country to be great again, but it won’t be with the immeasurable burden of these leeches draining us dry.

Try to sneak across the southern border of Mexico and see what happens.
That’s a nice double standard for you, eh?

Once again, in all the things you listed (aside from your car accident), how do you know that those big mean brown people are actually illegal and not just poor brown Americans?

PS: Georgia doesn’t have a “huge” Hispanic population-- it’s under 8%. California is well over 40%.

Uhhh, that post was not directed to you. It was a response to what another poster said. No shit. really. So, why don’t you just chill the fuck out?

And what’s your point? It might interest you to know that I favor much, much stronger penalties for those who employ illegals. I posted just the other day that I think nothing is going to change until some of them are in orange jumpsuits. So, I really don’t know what you’re objecting to.

Also, just out of curiosity, just how freakin’ accident prone are you people that you’re constantly at the emergency rooms?

Let the free market set the wage. In other words, get rid of illegals, then let Company A find legal workers. they probably won’t do it for the wage illegals did, but they’ll do it for some higher wage: $X. That would be the fair market price. The price at which the employer could expect to keep jobs filled. If there is a short-term need for more workers, let him access the workforce via the prison system. But make him pay them the same wage.

Clearer?

Or getting their cars smashed in by all these illegal aliens. Again, I live in California- land of the immigrant- legal and not- and don’t know a single person who has been involved in an accident with an illegal. Of course I’m not going to pretend that my anecdote is data or anything, but Jesus. Now, I do know several people who have been hit by uninsured drivers (some of which, no doubt, where Hispanic- thems just the statistics of California), but they were all American citizens who didn’t have insurance. No doubt some accidents are caused by illegal immigrants driving uninsured, but reading this thread, you’d think they just coyote their asses over here, get drunk, and jump behind the wheel of the nearest car (which they apparently stole), careening into whatever happens to be in their way.

Are your schools not paid for via property taxes? Because you say this:

… followed by this:

… demonstrates that either your school district is not, in fact, paid for via property taxes, or that you don’t know what you’re talking about.

(I’ll give you a hint. Renters pay property tax via their rent.)

But but but those dirty Mexicans smash so many of them into the same house! Only illegals do this! I’ve certainly never seen white trash families crammed to the gills of their little trailer, no sir!
And it is worth repeating: this is a poverty problem, not an immigration problem. Poor people have lots of kids. Poor people cram lots of people into houses. Poor people don’t have insurance. White, black, Mexican, legal, illegal, space alien- poverty brings about these problems.

I’m just amused at the irony of “Every time I go to the ER there’s a long wait because of all those OTHER people (brown and otherwise) who should go to a REGULAR doctor. Not like ME, I have a perfectly good reason for always being at the emergency room.”

Madam, only white people need legitimate urgent and emergency care. All those colored folk are ruining our wonderful hospitals for us. Tut tut and such.

Oh, sorry. Is this the private message board? I must’ve mis-logged on somehow. Sorry. Go back to your private conversation.

Oh. Well, sorry again, too, that I can’t read your thoughts (nor that I have not become enough of a fan to read all your posts here. I thought I’d read enough to get a real handle on who you are… Usually skimming is sufficient).

I just thought that since that point had already been brought up, and that you didn’t, in fact, clarify your stunning… clarity… Well, you could see where a gal could get confused.

Hey, guys? Undocumented workers drive down wages. It’s a fact.

Thanks, mag!

There was a 20/20 or Frontline piece on this a few years ago. One of the problems is that the house was only supposed to have for people in it, but it had like twenty. Evidently, this is a common problem in some areas.

A single family home in my neighborhood pays roughly 2,500/year in property taxes.
It doesn’t know if it’s a rental or not!
If the 3 or 4 families living there lived properly in single-family homes, then there would 4 times the tax revenue. As it stands, they pay 1/4.

Our ER visits are always an emergency; kidney stones, broken this or that, etc.
Our basic medical care is seen to by our doctor.

We don’t go to the ER for flu shots or earaches.

Gwinnett County GA has approximately 13% illegals. That’s just the ones that hold still enough to count.
