I’m thinking of shows like Howard Stern and Rush Limbaugh. How does the audio get from their location to the subscriber stations?
WAG - Satellite, like syndicated TV
I also believe it’s done through satellite. At least some stations record the program before airing it. There’s even a device radio stations can puchase to speed up segments of the broadcast to give them more room for commercials.
I always thought it was through dedicated telephone lines.
Used to be done through dedicated phone lines, but not any more. Pretty much all satellite now. Though you can still find producers who ship programs on tape through the mail.
Yeah, 9 times out of 10 it’s satellite. The syndicator sends a note to stations notifying them what time the feed will begin, on what bird, and what transponder number. The station sets its satellite receiver to the appropriate settings, and airs the feed or records it for later broadcast.
