I barely keep mine within a month of the current date. While I’m not swearing it off, I’m not exactly keeping it current. . .
All ya do (as far as I know) is post to it when you feel like it. Kinda like these here boards.

Or, more accurately, you post to a journal. You can make public posts that anyone and their brother can see, or private posts that you only you can see, or set them to specific groups of people.
You can also mark certain people as “friends” - and by clicking a handy convenient link, you can read the journals of everyone you’ve marked as as a friend. It’s a nice way to keep up on what’s going on in their lives.
It’s also free, so poke around, see what you like, and join the sdmb community there.
Some people use it as a personal journal like you would the written kind. Others use it as a quick forum for observations and musings. It can be a lot like MPSIMS but where it’s okay to be more personal or mundane. If you allow comments, you can start some interesting dialogues about issues. But I tend to be pretty goofy in mine–I don’t get real philosophical most days.
