Well, the Beatles obviously had no female members. And hell, when did we start to apply fiction theory to real-life people?
But I feel, with the examples of Star Wars and Futurama, that it would be likely that any female lead is stocked into category number two. Especially regarding families.
I’m trying this for Sluggy Freelance, but it doesn’t seem to quite work. Torg is more of a hybrid #1/#4. Anyway:
Torg and Riff
Bun-Bun*
Zoe
Torg and Kiki
I realize that Bun-Bun is hardly the idealised version of a hero, but he’s certainly never conflicted, and other than in the storylines driven by Bun-Bun, he does end up fighting for the right side, if for the wrong reasons(well, ostensibly for the wrong reasons, anyway).
Actually, Firefly does seem to follow this pattern, in two layers:
Mal and River
Zoey and Simon
Inara and Kaylee
Wash and Jayne
and
Shepherd = ??? (He is shrouded in mystery, obviously powerful or important, knows a lot about shady dealings, crime and security and wears a disguise that places him outside of all suspicion. His name is two symbols (Shepherd Book), which is almost as obvious as naming your sons Cain and Able. Too bad he just got greased in the movie, I would have liked to know who the hell he is.)
