How Easy Is It For A Woman To Get Pregnant?

Since we are supposed to be fighting ignorance here:

Nope. Current wisdom is about 1/3 female, 1/3 male, 1/3 both (althought when I was in training we were taught 40% female, 40% male, 20% both). Sorry to rant but I can’t tell you how many women I’ve seen go through expensive and painful procedures like hysterosonograms before anybody thinks to test the male partner.

I read that if a woman is in her early 30s and you ejaculate in her multiple times during her most fertile period there is a 10-20% chance of pregnancy.

However I don’t recall if that was ‘pregnancy’ or ‘conception’ because a lot of conceptions end up failing very early in the pregnancy.

When did they add a course in reproductive biology to cop school?

In other words, your cops are full of shit (or, more likely, cynically joking). Might they be lying? Sure, of course. Lying for sure? Bullshit. It’s perfectly possible to get pregnant with a single incidence of sex. I’ve done it twice, once accidentally and once on purpose. In fact, one ONLY and EVER and ALWAYS gets pregnant from a single incidence of sex - the other acts of sex, no matter how frequent, are irrelevant to the conception.

My own sex-ed teacher said, paraphrasing from memory:

"whether you gals start taking The Pill or get a IUD or neither, never ever ever do it without a condom. You guys, buy and carry condoms. Keep this in mind: we call Her Mother Nature because She likes babies. She loves babies, in fact. Lots of babies. And you girls, you’re good girls! Good girls don’t do it!

Only, the time a good girl is more likely to say yes is when she’s at her most fertile and, being a good girl who won’t be doing it, she won’t be on the Pill or have a IUD. Mother Nature loves babies. Carry condoms. Learn how to put a condom on. And if any of you girls say yes and the guy refuses to wear a condom, kick his ass to the curb, because a boy who can’t be arsed to take that minimal effort to prevent a pregnancy that you, being good girls who don’t get abortions, would be the ones carrying to term and raising, he doesn’t deserve you."

It took us 2 years the first time (twins!) and five years this second time (a girl!)
As far as we knew we didn’t have any fertility problems, but when I went to my primary care physician a few months after the twins were born I was diagnosed with Poly-cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), which can result in fertility issues. However, I never considered fertility treatments even after finding out about my diagnosis because I am pretty much content with taking nature as it comes and if I can’t have any more babies I am okay with that. In fact, after this little one is born (due June 1st) I am considering permanent birth control.

My BFF is going through trying to have a baby and her husband was tested, he has low motility which can affect fertility. She has endrometriosis which can also affect fertility. She is really stressed out about getting pregnant before her husband goes off to basic training, which can ALSO affect fertility. I understand her desire to have children and I am a sympathetic ear when she calls me to talk to me about it, but it is really hard for me to empathize since personally I would focus more on my relationship with my husband and enjoying what I have rather than pining for children and focusing so much time and energy and money on trying to have kids I may never have and being miserable and depressed about it. I try not to talk too much about my own kids because I know how painful it is for her to hear from her friends with kids when she is having so much trouble convincing. I think society puts too much pressure on women to have children, as if that is the ultimate mark of femaleness.

First Pregnancy: First time.
Second pregnancy: 3 months

It’s got nothing to do with biology because the cops don’t mean you can’t get pregnant from a single act of sex. They’re expressing disbelief that the couple had sex once, got pregnant and didn’t have sex again before discovering the pregnancy.

Four pregnancies in 15 cycles of “trying”. Early thirties.

I’m not sure where you got that out of the quote, but okay.

It’s still stupid. Lots of kids have sex and then break up. Lots of kids have one night stands (or “hookups” or whatever they’re calling it now) or drunken nights at a party. Or have sex and then one or both discover they can’t handle it or they scare themselves realizing they might be pregnant or have caught an STI and they don’t have sex again for a while. Really, the sex life of a teenager is generally pretty erratic.

I got it from knowing a lot of cops.

I didn’t say they were right, just that they weren’t talking about biology.Although I think “couple” implies more of a relationship than a one night stand or hook-up.

Can you tell me the average number of months between the time a married couple cohabitates and the time the female gets pregnant?

Try this:

No, I can’t.

Six months from that study. Caution: that’s just one study. There are super-fertile women and venomous men out there who can do hole-in-ones but I’m assuming those to be flyers.
