How easy is it to lie?

Are you clutching your pearls or something? (I’m sorry, that comes across a lot more snarky than I mean it to - but your invoking the word shocks makes me think of the Church Lady).

You mean you’re really surprised that lying is all about the gray areas? Humans are involved - of course everyone is going to come to this their own way.

What the hell are you talking about? I haven’t even posted in this thread yet.

But you JUST DID!!! See!!! LIAR LIAR PANTS ON MUTHA FLIPPING FIYAH!!

froths at mouth

Why are you trying to murder decency!!!

This makes no sense. How could I have posted in this thread when everyone knows I never have and never will post in IMHO?

Ah; got it. Carry on.

Jeez, sometimes I feel like I did just fall off the turnip truck.

Telling a lie perpetuates the illusion that we (everyone) are not one. Very bad stuff!

I can lie well when I want to. The key thing is to watch how you talk normally and model that, both in terms of the content of what you say and the nonverbal cues you give. For example, some people are obvious liars because they either include more or less detail when they’re lying. Think of a true statement the way you’d say it; then do some word substitutions to make it into a lie that has the same format as the truth.

But I’m like a lot of others here: it’s just not worth it. A reputation for honesty is more valuable than any benefit that comes from a lie.

If you’re someone who can’t handle being told the truth, there’s a good chance I’ll stop associating with you altogether. (For example: Do not ask me if your butt looks big unless you really want the honest appraisal. If you only want me to say something nice, ask me a better question like “What do you like about this outfit?”)

funny-I always heard it as “Telling everyone what they want to hear perpetuates the illusion that we are one.”
