I’ve never been to Cuba (although I’d love to go there some time), but what one gets from movies, TV, books etc. cigar smoking, presumably domestic ones, is pretty common among Cubans.
Now the average Cuban’s income is said to be low in international comparison, and (at least here) Cuban cigars, especially the “fat” ones, often are quite expensive. So does anyone know how much (in relation to income) a Cuban citizen has to pay for a Havana that costs, say, ten euros here? And what percentage of cigar production is consumed in Cuba itself instead of being exported?
Well having been there numerous times I’ll say this. A good cigar from Cuba would cost someone there a matter of cents. Compared to their income, of which I do not know a lot about how much they get paid per capita, but it would be expensive for some not for others. Like anywhere. Now as to what makes Cuban cigars so good…Well the fields the tobacco comes from to make these cigars have parented many generations of fine tobacco and the soil is rich and fertile. Plus their subtropical, humid climate helps considerably. If you get your hands on a good cuban cigar, that is still very fresh, you must light it with a cedar stem and let the smoke infiltrate every sense in your palate. Then you’ll know why people love a good cuban cigar!
