How far are you from a Starbucks?

You don’t work at the same company as me, do you?

Pret was entirely UK-owned until a year or so ago, when in order to fuel expansion into the US they sold 33% of the company to McDonald’s. Aroma is entirely owned by McDonald’s. Caffè Nero and Costa (formed by Italian immigrants to London in 1971, now owned by Whitbread) are entirely UK-owned. I believe Coffee Republic is US-owned but with more flexibility for local variations.

Good article here: The Guardian: Spilling the beans (04.08.2001)

It wouldn’t surprise me if there are Starbucks on some of the cross-channel ferries by now.

200 km away in Vienna. Dude, Vienna. Vienna has a Starbucks. Vienna, as in Coffeehouse Capital of the World. My Lord, that puts at, what, the fifth trumpet?

The new fifth horseman of the apocalypse: moccacino, purveyor of frothy semi-skimmed death.

There are 3(!) in Nottingham, all within a 10 minute walk of each other.

They’re all about 4 miles from me.

I live in Cumbria, which has no Starbucks whatsoever. Nearest one going south is in Bolton (82 mile drive, says autoroute). Nearest going east is in Bradford (122 mile drive). Nearest going north is in Newcastle (130 mile drive).

Keep Cumbria Starbucks free!

There are a couple of nice family owned cafés in town which do good coffee. The Sting in the Tail is better than the Hot Mango. And hell, my own kitchen does pretty good coffee.

I once had a habit of taking a bus from North Hollywood to my job in Woodland Hills. (both in the San Fernando Valley, about 12 miles apart) There was a Starbucks at the bus stop in North Hollywood.

One day, to occupy my mind, I counted the coffee houses on the way to work.

There were 12, count 'em, TWELVE Starbucks along the bus route. Said route was entirely on Ventura Blvd. That’s not to mention the 2 Coffee Bean’s and 1 other indie coffee house.

If I get tired of the two branches in my office building, I can always relax and enjoy the branches at Camden Town and Belsize Park, both around 5-10 minutes from my home. I think this corporation may be following me.

The only Starbucks in Montreal are the ones in Chapters (a bookstore). The most prevalent chain is called Second Cup, which I actually prefer Starbucks to. Bah.

About 630KM - I’m in Denmark and the nearest seem to be in Berlin Germany.

I think the coffee will get a little cold before I get home.

A 2-3 hour flight (from Rouen France to Berlin Germany) - I think I win.

Ugh, I have one down the street from my job, it’s only a few hundred yards at most. I’ve also got one about a 1/4 mile from my apartment. Actaully there are two near my apartment, in the same shoping center, right next to each other. One is a stand alone and the other is in the safeway. Don’t ask me I don’t know why they did that I think they are open the same hours too!

My nearest Costa is a 25 mile drive away. Nearest Caffè Nero is an 85 mile drive.

I’m In Islington and the answer is:

50 yards.

There are also more coffee shops than you can shake a stick at.

It’s not that easy to get a decent cup of tea.

There’s 3 about 20-30 miles from me … ones a normal store with a drive through and the other ones in a barnes and nobles and one in a albertsons

Interestingly they don’t list the ones in the B&N unless its in another category

The one in the b&n is about maybe 5 minutes from the b&n and thats a liberal estimate

The closest one to me is inside the campus library, so about five miles off. There’s also apparently one inside the SuperTarget, but I don’t know where exactly that is yet.
I don’t go to either one.

no starbucks in india, yet.

we have a chain of coffee shops called “Barista”. and they’re every goddamn where…

the closest one is like a few blocks away from where i stay…

About 400 miles, thank goodness.

I don’t drink coffee, so I don’t even notice coffee shops. It appears the nearest Starbucks is about 5 or 6 miles away from my house. There are convenience stores closer, so if you visit me, bring your own or you’ll be driving for your fix.

What, you mean the chain part-owned by McDonald’s?
