How far are you from a Starbucks?

I LIVE IN the Boston area, and Starbucks is everywhere! To my mind, they have just about run out of expansion room. Plus, I have sampled their coffee (on two occasions) and I find it :

  1. outrageously exensive
  2. bitter and having an odd flavor-reminiscent of being held too long
I find the local brew from Dunkin Donuts, and even Micky D’s to be better and less costly…hmmm…should we be shorting Stabucks stock?

Currently my apartment is about one block away from a Starbucks, and so is my girlfriend’s apartment (no, not the same Starbucks). Until recently I was working in an office building that had a Starbucks in the ground floor, and there was another Starbucks directly across the street.

Apparently, the problem with the taste of Starbucks coffee is that it’s partly over-roasted (or “burnt” as we call it). They mix the beans before they roast them, which means that the roasting time is too long for some of the coffee bean varieties.

Dunkin’ Donuts has a good reputation amongst coffee drinkers.

I worked in the Starbucks Roasting plant for a little while when I was in college, and you are right about their over-roasting. This is partly because they mix the beans before roasting and partly so they can get a “consistent” quality.

Personally, I’ve been happier with some of the other chains in Seattle, such as Cafe Vita and Cafe Ladro.

Thanks TVguy! I was unaware that they had all that stuff. As for caffeine, what the hell? I’m always hyper anyway, my guy might as well join in the fun…

The closest is maybe 10 minutes away, with another one about five minutes away from that one.

They’re starting construction of a Starbucks on my spleen in three weeks.

I was surprised to find out there is one in a Kroger store in Oxford (home of Ole Miss). Mapblast says it is 68.33 miles from here. The others are outside of Memphis, which is where I thought the nearest would be.

The closest Starbuck’s to me, according to their site, is in Atlanta which is a three hour drive. Guess I’ll just have to stick to the Joe Muggs thingy in Books-A-Million, which is 8 miles away when I want a mocha frappa latte frou frou cup of coffee.

2.95 miles

I have my choice of the one three blocks away, the one five blocks away, or the one at the mall, which is two blocks away. Luckily there’s also a few independent coffee shops, a Tully’s, and an SBC nearby.

Why, yes, I do live in Seattle; why do you ask?

I know of 4 different Starbucks within a 2 block radius of work. This includes one street corner that has TWO SEPARATE STARBUCKS – one on the northeast corner, and one on the southwest.

Plugging my address into the Starbucks locater, I have found there are another 7 stores in the same radius that I didn’t know about.

On top of that, you’ve got at least 5 or 6 other coffee shops in the same territory that I know about-- and I don’t drink coffee, so there may very well be more.
