I actually did date a girl for about 5 years who was very “liberal”. Turns out she was just a bigoted individual with illogical ideas about men and women in society and how things should be. Unfortunate, her constant use of the the word liberal to describe herself poisoned the well for me. So freinds at best, maybe.
I’m probably a bit more liberal than conservative but really middle of the road by and large, so it’s difficult for anyone to be “opposite” me. I do generally shun anyone at either ends of the spectrum.
Female, moderate conservative with libertarian leanings. It seems much more plausible that I could end up marrying a liberal guy than a vegan or a devote Catholic. I tend to tune out other people’s political rantings, no matter from which side of the aisle, so I’m not sure that him being my opposite would be that big a deal.
It depends. I don’t think I could screw a social conservative… not knowingly anyway. But fiscal conservatives, sure. I have a few friends who are fiscally conservative and I don’t consider it that big of an ideological difference.
The problem is that I really get wrapped up in my politics. I take it personally sometimes. Periodically I just need to vent to my husband and preach to the choir, so to speak. We are ideologically very similar and it works very well. I can’t imagine not having that outlet.
“Friends” with benefits? Why isn’t there a poll option for the hate fuck?
Well, I wouldn’t want to let a xenophobe stick his dick in me, but I’m fine with separatists so long as they’re not xenophobes. I don’t think I’d be able to have a relationship with anybody who voted socialista (sorry, RedFury, I’m sure this breaks your heart :p) since I’m not just “rightist” by Red’s standards but violently allergic to that particular party yet I’d have no problems with most IU voters, who are a motley crew further left… shrug, I would be extremely surprised to meet someone who shared my views (plus it would get real boring real fast, I can talk to myself by myself), but except for a few extreme allergies I’d be fine with large differences.
If we were talking LTR, then there would be more limits than for a tumble in the hay, of course. A tumble in the hay doesn’t need much in the way of agreeing on how to spend money or whether to cheat on taxes, for example.
