How far in advance are Cecil's columns written?

I guess I’m wondering what deadlines Cecil has to face.

Let’s say there was a hot question of limited “shelf life”, and Cecil happened to know the answer and wanted to print it.
E.g., if someone writes in with “When and where did voting machines become legal?”

The topic was great last month and old news this month.
Could he have “stopped the presses” on a day or two’s notice to swap a “perishable topic” column for the planned one that could easily wait a week?

[sub]Corolary question:[/sub]
Has Cecil ever done like some famous columnists and had a “Cecil is on vacation and will appear again next week” or “…and so here is a Classic” column ?

Well, he once did a followup (on bra sizes, in response to a comment by user lee) within fourteen days after she raised her point. For short blurbs like the cannabis leaf on the Canadian flag, the turnover seems to be a couple of days or less. I’m not sure about the main column entries, though.

About three weeks ahead he writes the columns. Once in awhile he pushes a particularly timely one ahead.
