How fast can you type ?

44/44

And I used to think that was fast.

I could probably type faster if I was typing code.

my typing teacher would cringe at my “method”. i was much better when i wrote for a living but i don’t do it nearly as much as a teacher.

I had the odd experience of having had my first keyboarding class on an Apple IIe. The little dot-guide thingies are on different home keys than on a Windows machine (Windows are on F and J, Apples on D and K.) Then used Macs for a really long time. Then had a typing class using actual, real, typewriters. I now use a Windows machine and have for a number of years. As a result, I have a sort of weird hybrid typing method.

I had typing class in middle school, but that’s not where I learned to type quickly. The summer after 7th grade I discovered the Internet and message boards. When I got back to school, I rocked at typing.

I make a fair amount of typos usually, but I correct them without thinking. I would really suck on a typewriter. The backspace key is my friend.

78 and 75

would have done better if the test wasn’t so badly written.

The editor in me kept wanting to change it.

Surprised myself. Took it three times and came out:

67 gwpm, 65 nwpm
76 gwpm, 76 nwpm
73 gwpm, 73 nwpm

Hadn’t taken a timed test in about 15 years. Used to be timed between 60 and 65. I figured I’d come out worse than before because I don’t actually type for a living anymore, but - lo and behold - I seem to have improved.

I learned to type from a manual that Grandma bought for me after I failed to take typing in high school. That wound up being one of the most useful skills I ever learned. Got me in the door where I currently work in a very non-clerical job…

Crazy … I knew I was good, but I didn’t know I was THAT good!

78/77

That sounds about right.

57/55 Not bad for someone with HUGE hands.

102 gross, 99 net.

Can I play any piano anymore? Nope. But those years of lessons were good for something.

60/60

Absolutely no style, but good enough for what I do.

Not bad considering I did it typing on a laptop computer while sitting in my armchair in my living room.

Took it a few times and my best score was 105/104. Worst was 99/97.

121/114.

(Which I hope at least partly explains why I always come across as so long-winded in my posts; it doesn’t take that long to type it all.)

89/72. Pretty fast, but also very sloppy. I felt so nervous doing this stupid test! My old competitive nature no doubt. Back to Mavis Beacon for me.

95/93. I’m out of practice. Odd test, though. How representative of real-world typing speed is it if it doesn’t include numbers or symbols?

89/88 (first try)

109/104 (best out of 6 or so tries)

Almost every single time I took the test I started it off like this: You are abou tto embark on a new career that is both challenging and reqarding.

102/102. I took a typing class (holy crap, I’m still trying to type as fast as I can!) about seven years ago.

Hey, I’d actually improved a tad. I’m up to a whopping 35/32. I just have to correct my mistakes as I make them. I just can’t ignore them. That eats up time.
