The SD was the first (and to date the only) internet message board in which I participated. I was initially very dismissive of some of the more ‘personal’ contributions and expressions of congratulations, sympathy etc., amongst people who had never met. I’m still not a great sharer but I understand to a much greater extent where these people are coming from. I think I respect the community and its customs, rules etc. to a far greater degree that I did in my early days here.
I’ve also learned a lot about Americans, and more particularly about how incorrect the stereotypes are.
Seeing as Guinastasia was brave enough to share an embarrassing early post (although it wasn’t that bad), I’ll do likewise. In a thread entitled Hanging black crepe for Lady Marjorie, which was a fond obit for an actress from Upstairs Downstairs, I contributed this gem:
