How high should a toilet seat be?

Yes, we’ll do that. Son needs it anyway to wash his hands etc.

That’ll also help if your guests come in different sizes. For that possibility a somewhat tall toilet with a stool provided does seem like the best workaround.

I’d never dare do that. My guests typical supply their own stool at the toilet.

Ack! I wasn’t thinking of that meaning!

Nope, I’m with you.

We have toilets of a few heights. We got a “comfort height” toilet in the master bath by mistake (they shipped the wrong one) and my friends talked me into keeping it. It’s okay, but i need a stool to poop comfortably. Then we got what i thought would be the same height toilet in the main bathroom, and it’s about an inch higher, and it’s uncomfortable for me to even pee, and I’m 5’6". My legs dangle a little, it’s awful. We have a stool, but that’s higher than i really want for a quick pee. I wish the damn toilet were shorter.

Despite having bad knees, I’m okay using squat toilets when I’m in countries that have them. And i use outhouses on vacation that are child-height, and so long as i expect the low height, it’s really fine. I have no idea why toilets have gotten so high.

My brother is divorced and lives in a condo now. But his last house was huge, with a guest apartment, gym, etc. There were bathrooms everywhere with a total of six toilets!! His wife had a “thing” and insisted that my brother replace (or have replaced) all the toilets with new ones.

He rented a truck and drove from Dexter, Michigan into Canada so he could buy the toilets he wanted (laws affected what was sold in Michigan). He was so proud of his six toilets.

Likely because of the water flow restrictions on toilets sold in the US.

I think those restrictions are valid - they do save a lot of water - but the toilets SIMPLY DO NOT work as well for… certain uses.

We now have bidet seats on all of our toilets, which has greatly reduced the number of times that ill-fitting plunger needs to be brought into service.

Pressure-assist toilets are available, even without needing to use more water.

True - and I might go for such if we ever purchase a new toilet. So far, every one we have ever owned has been a builder-special. For now, the bidet attachments make enough of a difference in the amount of TP needed that there is almost never a problem. They also broke my husband of using those (non)flushable wipes.
