I was riding back from Borders yesterday evening. It was right around sunset. The mountains were, as they tend to do here, glowing red from the reflection of the sunset. The moon was just barely over the mountains, a great big swollen silver balloon.
It was beautiful. I couldn’t take my eyes off of it.
And then I rode my bike over some broken glass and straight into the curb.
sigh Off to ye olde bike shoppe with me this weekend, then…
When this happens to me, it usually involves me walking into something. A person. A pillar. A car’s side mirror.
I think it’s a very good thing that I don’t drive.
I have a mental picture of you flipping over the handlebars here. I hope you’re all right!
Eh, could have been worse - the curb could have kinked your rim, or you could have fallen over and done a face plant into that glass.
One of my memorable flats was riding home at night and all of a sudden, my front wheel is going “FSSSSsssssssssss!” Despite allegedly puncture-proof tires, a thorn did me in. The next day, I took the tire to the store for a replacement, and the guy comiserated on how wicked those thorns are and showed me a collection of thorns, nails, etc. that they’ve pulled out of tires. The most striking thing was a tooth - apparently a dog thought someone’s bicycle was a chew toy.
Yeah, the moon was a wonder last night, wasn’t it? I was driving home after work, and that huge silver orb was right in front of me for the longest time as I drove straight east. I had to keep dragging my eyes from it to watch the road, so I understand your distraction. I hope it’s just as gorgeous tonight.
