How I spent my vacation.

Or at least part of it. I traveled up and down the Carolina Barrier Islands, and took pictures of lighthouses.

“How many lighthouses?” You ask.

Funny you should mention that. The flyers say five. The maps say six, and the really good maps say seven. But, I say eight! Ok, so that includes the new, ugly one, and the very old unrestored one on private property with no road access, and all the fences around it.

Well, here they are, from north to south: (caution, these are very large images, some almost 2 megabytes, so they load very slowly on dial up.)

Currituck Island Lighthouse, Bodie Island Lighthouse, The famous Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, Ocracoke Island Lighthouse, Cape Lookout Lighthouse,, Bald Island Light House (Cape Fear Lighthoue), Oak Island Lighthouse, (This one is actually active, and run by the Coast Guard.) The Price Island Lighthouse, the afformentioned hard to find unrestored, inactive one, and the oldest, too.

So, after thee days of driving, and a hundred dollars in tolls, and a hundred dollars in gas, I got them. Now I found out that there are five in South Carolina, five in Georgia, three in Virginia, and on up the coast. As a hobby, this one has serious drawbacks.

I’ll look at them tomorrow, from work – they’ll take too long to download here. You know I’m a fan of your work, though.
