Is our current political situation being reported on and discussed much in Russia? By the average citizen, that is, not by their governing elite.
No idea, however, I just heard that Russians living in New York, apparently tend to get the bulk of their news from Russian only sources, and those sources are almost 100% pro-Putin propaganda. So they LOVE Trump, and think we are mistreating him. I’d bet the same is true in Russia.
The political struggle in Washington is being discussed widely in the world and not just in Russia. Outside of the West, it is pretty much seen the same way. Trump has come from nowhere and upended the neo-con foreign policy of the Democrat and Republican establishment. Confrontation with Russia and China, human rights campaigns, and regime change are not central to his foreign policy. In most areas of the world, this is a welcome change. The neo-cons are not happy and have fabricated all kinds of lies about Putin, Trump and Putin, Russia meddling in US elections etc. People find the last especially hilarious as it is known everywhere, but the West, that the US is up to its ears in the internal affairs of almost every country on the planet. This is how the Russians see things.
I have read lots of “revenge for Yeltsin” posts on a couple of Russian forums I lurk on.
And yes U.S moans about “interference” have been met with amusement.
Interference is the norm for them. They do not enjoy the freedoms that we have in the West. We are outraged by the thought that something nefarious could happen. Maybe it’s not as polarized as that but we live in different countries.

Woooooooooossssshhhhh!!!
I don’t have first hand experience Russia, but in the countries I’ve lived and am living, there isn’t necessary a real depth of knowledge of US politics.
A very select few may have the understanding which race describes as as common, but really?
One Taiwanese friend is a local attorney for a US Fortune 50 company, travels to the States several times a year, is passionate about politics and probably doesn’t understand the nuances of neo con politics.
I have to plead Poe’s Law on this. Is this a whoosh? I presume so, but don’t know the poster enough to say.
Following up on my previous comments, I would expect that less than 1% of average Japanese or Taiwanese would be able to understand the term “neo con.” I would expect 99% would as much at a loss to describe the whys as the average American would be to be able to outline the influence of Japanese factional politics on Abe’s selection as Prime Minister.
