I’m working on a sf story, and have been thinking on this. The usual sf is that people who live on those worlds are stornger and faster, etc-Honor Harrington springs to mind most recently. For what I’m thinking, the G would be 1.3-1.5.
So first: Do you think people adapt to these conditions? Physically, not through tools.
Supposing they could:
Would they have a faster reaction time in lower gravity? I’m running around with weight on all the time, now I’m light? Or would they tend to have a better sense of balance and tread more carefully?
What health problems would have to be overcome? The heart and circulatory system might wear out faster. Joints might have problems, especially knees. So would they have stronger hearts, or just have shorter lifespans?
Pregnancy- this one I’m not sure of. I think that there are women with problems- the crevix doesn’t stay closed throughout the pregnancy? Would the women change in that way, stronger cervixes(sp)? Stronger backs, because (I think) that’s where pregnant women feel the weight?
When they left the world, say to go to earth or 1 g places: would they have all the problems of astronauts in zero g? Or would the presence of gravity be enough to prevent bone loss? Would they have to work out to keep fit enough to go home?
How would they look? Shorter (less distance to fall)? Very muscular (even though the bulk adds weight) or wiry (the muscle they have is well developed)? The women having wide hips?
What changes or problems haven’t I thought of?
Thanks for any input- I’d like to hear other people’s opinions.
