How long after I apply this "I Love Obamacare" sticker will it be removed?

I was the proud owner of one of the first Clinton/Gore stickers in Fort Worth. In addition to causing a very cute girl to wave at me in traffic (she then pulled past me, presumably so I could see her sticker), it engendered a piece of paper with “commie fascist” written on it under my door handle (to be fair this was at NorthPark mall, which is not in FW), and within a month it had been partially torn off. People are kinda crazy.

Yep, going on about 2 months.

I’m more interested to find out if any ‘widow smashing’ has occurred?

Sorry; the two widows I know are usually sober. :stuck_out_tongue:

This post conflicts me. On the one hand, I’ve always liked you and respected you as a poster, Anaamika, but on the other hand whenever I’ve seen that bumper sticker in real life I’ve commented “And yet if you MADE them put an “I’m an asshole” sticker on their car so we’d know to avoid them, they’d be outraged”. I see your explanation that it was black humour and it amused you, but to a casual bystander it would make you indistinguishable from the assholes who do hate cats and would deliberately run them down, and who display that bumper sticker as a mark of pride. Maybe it’s different in the US (I’ve never seen anything to indicate that cat hating is as entrenched and commonplace as it is here), but it’s disturbing to me.

It’s disturbing to me that anyone would take Anaamika’s sticker seriously. It’s obviously a joke. I know many cat lovers who would stick it on their cars actually.

Yes, you could be saying, “If you love your cat, DON’T let it go outdoors where it could be run over!”

I would question the reasoning ability of anyone who took Anamika’s long ago bumper sticker as anything other than black humor.

Perhaps you need to live someplace with a strong and outspoken anti-cat culture… like I do. It’s not at all joke-like when you routinely hear people saying similar and worse in all seriousness.

Granted, that doesn’t explain the person who took umbrage to Aanamika’s sticker (a visiting Aussie?).

Why is Australia so cat-hating? I’m not doubting you; I’m seriously curious. Is that a known thing, that Australians by and large don’t like cats? Or is this just your part of Australia?

Cats are blamed for endangering native species.

I would have said the worst you could expect was some high-beam tailgating and some intentional cut-offs in traffic. I only have an Obama/Biden blue magnet and I get that.

:Raises hand:

In fact, I own a cat. And I think that sticker would be freaking hilarious!!

Then again, I’m Israeli. Nobody does black humor like we do…

Back when I was in high school, I had a class where a bunch of assholes would compare notes on how many cats they had run over that weekend. I suspect cat hating is big everywhere, for whatever reason.

Yeah, the bumper sticker is certainly black humor, but that doesn’t save it from being assholish, in my opinion.

For what it’s worth - I’m not the OP but I live in a conservative state (Alabama) and I’ve had an “I like Obamacare” sticker on my car for a month or so, next to a generic Obama sticker. The sticker is still there, no vandalism on the car either. But my wife reports getting rude gestures from other drivers.

Tyler Perry?

Wouldn’t that be African American humor…?

Well in that case maybe they should be slaughtered?

It doesn’t mean anyone has to like doing it but if there are tens of millions of cats doing serious damage to endangered wildlife then I can see why it would be wise to be anti cat (in the australian context).

Out of interest, how do people feel about rabbits? Indeed, why aren’t the cats eating the rabits…?

What the bloody hell? Is Texas overflowing with cats or something?

If I SET OUT to kill cats by running them over, like seriously drove around 12 hours a day looking for cats to drive over, I would be unlikely to actually get one in a decade I would think.
