Apparently 1 ounce of alcohol takes 10 hours to leave the body of a normal person. But what about the body of someone whose body cannot metabolize or digest the stuff?
Do such people exist? Alcohol is a very, very simple substance; I’d think if you couldn’t metabolize or digest it, nutrition in general would be very difficult. (ETA: I know alchohol intolerance exists, but it causes different metabolization output–very like a hangover, I’m told–not an inability to digest or metabolize at all.)
Oh ok…maybe my misunderstanding.
How long does it take for an alcohol intolerant or allergic person to get alcohol out of their system?
Usually people are allergic to the congeners or additives in the alcohol, such as sulfites. Alcohol is metabolized quickly, about an hour per ounce/drink, but metabolites leave the body after 36 hours (or sooner). Drinking lots of fluid (non-alcoholic) will speed up elimination.
There is a really cool reference site that explains the effects, duration, metabolism, stories as well as laws, chemistry and so on for all types of drugs and the like. It is here; http://www.erowid.org
It will have all the answers you need, actually some fascinating stuff.
