As of right now, Great Debates is sitting at 971,862 posts. It is the only major forum on the site that has not passed the one million mark. In a little over a week, The Game Room has already racked up 32,809 posts and it’s only growing.
So how long do you think it will take The Game Room to surpass Great Debates? Weeks, months, years? Will the start of baseball season push it forward. What about Grand Theft Auto 4 and Super Smash Bros Brawl? Or the untethered game threads and more Family Feud than we can keep up with?
Do you think it’ll never happen? Will the upcoming election cause a surge of GD posting that will put it’s post count out of reach of TGR? Or will a summer after the primaries but before the election cause a drop that will make it vulnerable?
Or is this just “new board smell” and participation in TGR will drop off soon?
I dunno. I think more video game discussions are going to come out and if this forum were around before Halo 3 or Call of Duty came out, this forum would have swollen because of those two games.
Then again, you guys are weird and tend to not like the same games that everyone else in the universe likes.
Better we might ask:
How long before TGR overtakes Cafe Society?
How long till it has to be split off into The Game Dope, A Service of the Straight Dope?
I’m not sure that will ever happen. Cafe Society is in a bit of a lull because there’s not a lot of new TV lately, but as soon as stuff starts coming back (and summer movie discussions pick up), it’ll surge ahead of any pace TGR could keep up.
I think the better question is how long before game threads like Mafia, Family Feud and Charitible/Uncharitible (and this thread for that matter) get split off into their own subforum.
