Well, we ain’t waiting no eight years, and we ain’t putting up with no prima donna pets. They exist in this house because we enjoy their company. (Stokie is the sweetest cat imaginable to people, I must admit.) I will, however, give them a few months.
We just stop what we are doing and watch them, I usually cheer them on. The cat fighting growling dropped from 3-4 a day to occasional bitchslaps . Cee-cee has always been the aggressor, but both cats find being cheered on too, too, demeaning.
I don’t necessarily condone this, it seems kind of cruel, but my sister’s boyfriend got her two cats to get along by locking them in a cat carrier together. Before that, the cats hated each other, frequently getting into knock-down, drag-out fights with fur a-flying. After about a day in the carrier, they came out as friends and will sleep together and groom each other. These are two males, I don’t know their ages.
Hmm. A carrier seems kind of mean (especially since Eddles is such a fatty) but a bathroom, on the other hand… I’ll give it some more time but consider this. Although I suppose it could make matters worse.
Now that I think on it, we’ve moved twice since aquiring the second cat, and each time we move, they get along a little better. And each time we move, they spend at least a couple of days together in the bathroom while we get the boxes unpacked (the male will pee in boxes and the female tends to run out of doors - neither is easy to deal with during a move!). I wonder if their time in the joint together makes 'em more friendly like.
