How long between wearings of an outfit?

zephyrine, I’d worry about you if I knew you.

No, I worry about you anyhow.

Now, I am definitely of the clean and not too tight school of fashion. I guess I would worry about the clothes clashing, but I generally wear jeans, and my clothes in general don’t clash. (This isn’t just clever shopping; the colors that look good on me look good with each other.)

So I do not have your devotion to style. But even I know to set out what I am going to wear on Sunday. Five outfits on the shelf in neat little piles, including bra and socks.

With your attention to clothes you wait for the morning to pick out what to wear?

I had a friend who kept a notebook and would wear each outfit in rotation according to her book. She was a 4-week-no-repeaties kind of girl. Absolutely amazing. I tried really hard to do it and I couldn’t get past 2 weeks, and that was reeeeaaally stretching it.

A notebook? Amateur.

Stripes and checks go together just fine if you do so properly. I have a Hickey-Freeman seersucker suit that looks fabulous with one of my Burberry plaid ties. I get complements from random women on the subway every time I wear them together.

Helluva first post, Homocystein. Welcome to the boards!

I sound like a slob compared to some of you people!

My time between repeating clothing pieces/outfits is around a week, week and a half. The only reason its that bad is because im picky, and I really don’t have a very big wardrobe. I have 7 pairs of pants, i think, and none are just a plain pair of pants, so I can’t repeat any. My shirts are all vastly different, and so I can’t repeat any, but Im finding that I really don’t care as much anymore.

I also don’t like the styles that are out right now, and popular, so I tend to go looking at resale/vintage shops looking for the funky, basic, eclectic kind of clothing. I also embroider on jeans, so no pair is the same. I dunno, maybe once the styles change, I might buy more clothing, but until then, Il just try not to wear the same thing in the same week, because Im always afraid that someone will notice!

Zoinks! I must be from planet Xenon or something! My timebetween "00wearings of an outfit is approximately 8 hours.

I pretty much wear the same thing all the time. If I find an article of clothing that I like, I buy multiples, usually all in black. I found some pants at Target that I liked a few years ago, and then they went on clearance for 4 bucks apiece. I bought 8 pairs–5 black and 3 gray, and that’s virtually all I’ve worn for almost 5 years! Except for a pair of jeans. I like black scoop-neck t-shirts. So, for 3 seasons of the year, I wear black pants, a black t-shirt and some sort of sweater. In the summer, I wear a polo or decent t-shirt and khaki shorts. For dress-up, I have a few other things. And I have a couple of pairs of sweats. I always wash between wearings, except for sweaters, which I always wear with a t-shirt underneath.

It never occurred to me that people might notice how often I wear things, beyond a general sense that I’m a really boring dresser. I hope nobody thinks that I wear the same clothes without washing them!

…or carefully put together.
I’m a mix-'n-match animal, at least for clothes that anyone would notice. Casual stuff amount to jeans, random tops, etc. that I’m not gonna obsess about. If anybody else does, it’s their problem.
For work/dress things, I have a few standalone outfits that don’t mesh with anything else but they’re happy rarities. The rest are classic slacks, suits, dresses, shirts, etc. that slap together comfortably. Instant variety, especially when combined with some quirky accessories. A suit jacket can slide over a belted dress, complementary set of slacks, jeans, whatever. Likewise with a thin sweater, whatever. I just buy for stuff that can be tossed together willy nilly. Anybody who keeps track of that stuff really needs to get a life.

Another female college student checking in.

The same pair of jeans may be worn two or three or even four days in a row. Tops, however, must demonstrate a little more variety. You must let Tuesday pass before recycling Monday’s top. You don’t want to look as though you’re going to class in the same clothes you wore while getting drunk or stoned.

I see nothing wrong with buying the same item of clothing in several different colors. Hell, I see nothing wrong with buying two of the exact same item, as long as we’re talking about classic items, such as jeans or button-down shirts. You can be certain of looking good in it, and save yourself another clothes shopping trip in the process.

This was in the late '60s…way before computers could track fashion. She was a real trail-blazer.

Bloody hell, i go a few days. Still, I am a student and after staying up late that night I don’t really notice what im putting on at 6 in the morning
