How often do you buy clothes?

I’ve been told that I wear the same thing a lot. I buy new clothes occasionally online, but I mostly just stick with a few basics that I love. Some new stuff I buy never sees the light of day. I guess I’m just a very picky shopper. How does one vary their wardrobe to look like they have more clothes than they do. I usually just wear my jeans or black pants…with either a shirt or jacket. I often buy from OldNavy.com or Target.com. Does anyone else have that problem with clothes that they still wear their favorite stuff a lot and hardly wear new stuff they buy?

I wear a lot of hoodies and jeans. I usually buy my jeans on eBay, I can get a nice pair of broken-in Levis for about $5. I buy my hoodies at my college bookstore. More than once I have dreesed for school in something light, and later in the day it gets colder and I’m freezing, so I go to the bookstore and see if they have anything warm on sale.

I rarely buy anything new besides the hoodies. I might buy some cheap t-shirts at the Gap, but thats it. I’m not very fashionable.

My husband never wears different clothes. Camo and jeans. Camo and jeans. Camo and jeans. To infinity. Except funerals. Proper suit and tie there.

To answer the OP, I buy the same slacks in a few colors because I like the fit. So I have brown, navy and black work slacks. I also buy my favorite long-sleeved t-shirt in multiple colors. Then I change the look with different jackets or jewelry. I don’t spend tons of money on clothes, even though I really LIKE clothes.

I go through phases where I buy clothes - I’m having to break one right now because I was spending more than I meant to on clothes - usually once or twice a year.

Sometimes more often though - I expect to buy more in early June (before the Chicago trip) and then some as we head into fall, so I have more winter clothes to get through another Ohio winter.

Every opportunity I get and I actively seek them out.

I’m also quite picky about style, fit and quality so it’s not a trivial affair like heading off to the nearest LL Bean for a pair of sweats and a henley.

I’m a clothes horse.

I don’t buy clothes on any regular basis. I tend to buy them on clearance, so if I’m at Old Navy and find a pair of pants and a shirt for under $10, I’l usually get them. Some of my best purchaes include shirts that cost less than a dollar.

Oh yeah - that’s a definite issue with me. I sometimes end up donating clothes that still have their tags on them - because I know that I’ll never wear them.

I’m trying to be better. I’ll buy clothes only if I really love them, and then I’ll take the time to actually wear different stuff. It takes just as long to put on nicer clothes as it does to put on the same old same old. And something about wearing new clothes seems to energize - makes me feel more attractive.

Only when necessary.

And hopefully the better I get at sewing, the fewer and fewer clothes I’ll buy off the rack.

I buy new clothes maybe once every couple of years. Although I did buy a new sweater at Costco a couple of months ago - it was a nice chenille sweater and I got it for $10 or something. I usually work from home, so new clothes are rarely necessary, though I’m thinking they’ll be necessary in a few weeks since I’m starting a contract on-site with a client. I’ll probably start at Old Navy because I think the price of clothes, women’s clothes especially, is outrageous.

I go through cycles. Usually at the start of a season, I’ll buy some new work skirts and shirts and figure out what my casual “uniform” will be. I’ve been on a dress binge lately and splurged on a couple of Stop Staring dresses. I do probably look like I wear the same thing a lot because I have a basic look that doesn’t change all that much.

Shoes are a whole different story. I’m constantly buying shoes, probably a three of pairs a month on a slow month. I wear fairly basic outfits that I liven up with interesting shoes.

The word “often” and the phrase “buying clothes” do not go together in my universe. I got a new pair of black jeans last summer, they’re the newest clothes I have. So far this year I have not bought as much as a pair of socks – ooh I forgot – I did get new work shoes since the old pair fell to pieces, but that’s it.
On the Clanger home planet all one needs is one sturdy armoured vest, this Earth dwelling shirt’n’tie lark is really too much monkey business.

I rarely buy new clothes, and when I do it’s usually because I have a big hole in whatever piece I’m replacing. It’s not that I hate buying clothes, I just get used to whatever I have around. I have found a couple different places to buy clothes that seem to last forever, so I stick with them. Today, I think the newest thing I’m wearing are my boxers, and I think I bought them at least a year ago. My shirt is a hand-me-down from my father (at least 10 years old), and the pants are about 3 or 4 years old.

At any given time, I’m usually looking some specific class of clothing. Last fall, for example, I was snapping up blouses like nobody’s business. Having recently slaked a Cardigan Craving by buying three of them, I’m On the Prowl for:

  • Medium-weight V-neck sweaters that don’t plunge down to the xiphoid region.

  • THE Killer Blazer: You know, the one they’re always saying Every Woman Must Have on What Not to Wear. The “You can dress this down with a bluejean, or dress it up with a pencil skirt” one.

Also, I have made a vow: Never again will I buy pants that aren’t a Tall size. I’m sick of wearing highwaters. However, it’s hard to find anything but “regulars” in the places I shop, so it’s gotten to the point that when I do find something I like in a Tall, I always buy it immediately, because if I decide to think about it for a week, inevitably it’s gone when I come back.

I end up going shopping maybe once every two months, but I frequently go home empty-handed.

I probably buy new clothing every month. Usually a new work shirt, tie, t-shirts and underwear. I buy jeans and jackets less often – maybe every quarter. To avoid cluttering up the house with clothes, I ruthlessly throw/give away old things once they become tatty.

I ususally buy at least one new item of clothing each week. I almost only buy things that are on sale, but I love buying new clothes.

Heh. Let’s just say waaay too much.

I think I have enough clothes now that I can go eight to ten weeks without repeating an item.

I recently lost a bunch of weight and have gotten myself down to a loose size eight. So, you see, I have to shop. See?

This season I’m all about cute skirts, blouses, ribbed tanks and shrunken jackets.

I go shopping probably about once a month. Most of the time, that means going to Goodwill and spending about two hours looking at every piece of clothing on the rack. I only buy brand-name items, such as Old Navy, Gap, Calvin Klein, Express, Aeropostale, etc. You’d be surprised what I’ve found. I think the best was the Donna Karan silk tie I bought for my husband. I paid $1.35 for it. Three-quarters of my wardrobe is from Goodwill and rummage sales. I have some things from eBay, too. I love bargain hunting!

I do shop at Old Navy online sometimes. Earlier this month I splurged and spent $50 on five shirts at the closest Old Navy. I also bought two T-shirts at Aeropostale.

Not often enough, and it shows. I update my wardrobe gradually, usually buying a few pieces each summer, so I have a lot of stuff which is a few years old. I don’t generally have a lot of extra cash to spend on that sort of thing (and when I do, I usually spend it on anime, video games or books on the way to the clothing store) or I would buy clothes more often. I have a lot of items I’d like to replace and get rid of right now (at least half of my total wardrobe) but I can’t afford it sighs

I love clothes! I’ve lost about 42 pounds in the last year and I went from a size 18 to a size 10…I still plan to lose about 15 more pounds so the clothes I just bought will have to be replaced in a few months…Now when I see a cute outfit in the store, there is a likelihood that it will fit me…and I don’t have to buy baggy clothes.
So, lately, I’ve been shopping for clothes a lot…I like stores like Target, or Old Navy. I f I’m in the mood to spend $40.00 for a pair of jeans, I shop at American Eagle Outfitters.
