How often do you buy clothes?

I haven’t been in a long time till this past weekend. I’ll be going on a trip next week and I need everything! So far, I’ve been to about 50 places and hardly bought anything.
I used to shop recreationally every Saturday at Goodwill, and I got some really great stuff there. I’d like to get back in the habit of checking them out on a regular basis.

I don’t shop nearly enough. It usually all ends up in tears, anyways. But I desperately need some new clothes and I will get my Newport-News shopping spree. O Yes. It will happen.

About once a week. Every day at the beginning of a season. Every day if I’m stressed (it’s been pretty well every day for the last couple of months.)

I have way to many clothes.

I buy new stuff periodically. I tend to buy in spurts, rather than picking up a shirt every so ofte, or whatever.

But even when i buy new stuff, i have a tendency to wear the same old things a lot of the time. Often, when i first buy new clothes, i try to save them for “special” occasions, but then i realized that if i keep doing that i’ll never wear them.

For example, i have this shirt that i really like, and that i didn’t want to wear out too quickly. Then, just last week, i realized that i’ve had this shirt for over a year, and i’ve been so concerned about not wearing it out that i’ve only worn it once in all that time. I decided that life’s too short to be worrying about whether a shirt lasts me ten years instead of three, so i wore it.

I buy nicer clothes seasonally. This way, I can get more use of fittings. Give the suitmakers, shirtmakers, etc. ideas and have them fit me, then make use of their efforts once they’ve finished.

I typically buy accessories and more casual clothes about two or three times a month, sometimes more at various boutiques and Barney’s, etc.

I’ve used eBay a couple of times, but never in instances where fit was a factor (e.g. pants, shirts, jackets are out).

I buy a new pair of trousers whenever anyone says,

“I seee London, I see France, I see _ _ _ _ _'s underpants.” :dubious:

Which is mean trick, since I don’t wear any!

I try to keep 5 of everything in good condition, when I notice a shirt is starting to look a little ratty I buy a new one, Dockers and jeans the same way. tee shirts and socks I buy in bulk when I have to hunt for clean ones. Briefs when the holey ones out number the non-holey. (is holey even a word?)

I’m a bit like laurelann, I don’t normally head out with the intent of buying clothes every X amount of time.

What I do is simply keep an eye out for good deals as I do my usual errands. If I spot something that looks good on me, fits well, and is at a decent price, I pick it up even if I don’t have an immediate use for the item. With my size and shape, finding things that fit properly can be a nightmare depending on the current styles (or simply difficult at others) so it has paid off for me to shop this way.

(I got a really nice long beaded gown for $40 this way. Ended up not having a use for it for nearly a year but that meant I didn’t have to search for something to wear and a) risk not finding something sutiable and b) paying too much.)

Because of this, there are few items in my closet I rarely wear. (The exceptions: formal wear and business attire. I simply don’t have much call to wear that type of clothing currently.) If I find something that has fallen out of favor, then when I do my yearly weeding out of the closet I’ll put them in the donation bag (or toss if it fell out of favor because of condition).

<< Another deadline, another miracle. >>

I spend far too much money on clothes, and I have far too many of them. I have a spurt at the beginning of the season, and another one during the sales, and occasional forays in between.

I love clothes.

Oh dear…I love clothes shopping, much to my husband’s chagrin.

In the last couple of years I’ve been trying to ask myself, “Are you REALLY going to wear that? Will it be comfortable? Is chartreuse a good idea??” This has saved me from having to return a gazillion things - or worse, having clothing I will never wear in my closet. I think I’m finally at the point in my life where I know what looks good on me and what doesn’t. When I find a shirt or pants I like I try to buy them in a couple of colors.

I would say that I shop every 2 months - sometimes more. I like TJ MAXX, Target, Banana Republic, the Boden catalog, J Crew…We also have some great outlet stores like Ann Taylor, Burberry’s, Neiman Marcus, Ralph Lauren, Gucci, Prada…once in a while I find a too good to pass up bargain.

Now that I’m pregnant it’s all about shoes and bags

Every couple of weeks I get something new, especially now for two reasons:

  1. I make a lot more money than I used to, so I can save money and still have a bit to spend on fun (read: clothing/shoes)
  2. I need spring/summer clothes for work. It’s buisness professional where I work, so I need nicer stuff than I used to, and most of my nice stuff consists of wintery clothes. I need skirts and lighter sweaters.

I’m going to go on an H&M / Filene’s Basement / Marshall’s run next week for some new stuff. I could also use some shoes (not really, but I WANT shoes), but that will have to wait. Also, like a few of the other posters, I’ve lost a little weight recently and my clothes are baggy on me. I think I might fit into a 10! Woo hoo!

When my old ones get too many holes in them. I wear the same thing anyway (pocket t-shirt and jeans everyday of the week) so when one or the other falls apart I buy another one, I probably buy 2 pairs of jeans and 2-3 shirts a year and a new pair of shoes every 12-24 months.

Too often. There’s no pattern or planning to my clothes buying, though. If I see something I like, I usually layby it (lay it by??) if I can’t afford to buy it outright.

Sadly for me, most of the clothes for the upcoming southern winter are vile, so I’ve bought only one pair of new trousers this year.
