If I want to keep uncooked rice and water in my rice cooker, how long can I let it soak before it changes the consistency after cooking?
Try reading the instruction manual that came with the rice cooker. I know that mine mentioned something about it. I dont’ remember off the top of my head, but at least overnight/during the work day is OK, but I want to say it said something about 18 hours as a limit.
Here in Paradise:dubious:, Hawaii, we sometimes will wash and soak rice for the next day. If temperatures are cool, you may let it soak for even longer. If temperatures are warm or if you don’t know when you will cook the rice, we place the pot in the refrig. Rice whether cooked or not will ferment if left in a warm place too long. Soaking makes for a softer, stickier rice. Many people do this when cooking brown rice. However, this does make the rice more fragile. Agitating the rice such as trying to rerinse the rice will cause it to fall into mush when cooked.
