In January of this year I was in a car accident. I cracked my sternum and two or three ribs on my right side. After about three months I finally no longer felt pain from my sternum or right side.
A couple of days ago I moved some furniture around. All day today, starting from when I got out of bed, my right side has been sore.
So, I know it varies from person to person, but generally how long do you think it will take before I can move heavy objects without it affecting my ribs?
A lot would probably depend on the alignment of the ribs post fracture, and the stresses encountered during healing. I have cracked ribs a number of times and a couple of months seems to be about average for me.
Six weeks. That’s what I was told, that’s how long mine took, with gradual improvement from week to week (as in being able to sleep in a prone position vs in a chair).
I do heavy physical labor from sun up to sun down. This was almost impossible the first 2 weeks, but 3-5 weeks only painful upon squatting or twisting. After six weeks, only an occasional twinge. Now it’s good as new (about 10 weeks).
Yeah, I cracked some of mine in January 2009 and was hors de combat for 5 days and in considerable pain and/or discomfort for almost two months afterward.
