How long does it take for an enlarged thyroid gland to go down?

Before anyone starts, yes I’m under the care of a Dr.

Ahem.

I have hypothyroidism. My thyroid is big and fat. Puffy. Gag-inducing. My Dr. has expressed that this is normal, and as we get it’s function under control, it will go back to normal size and I’ll feel less like barfing all the time.

So, I’ve been on the medication for 7 weeks and it appears to be working. My TSH levels are normal (or they were at the last blood test 2 weeks ago), I’m feeling less sleepy, and I’ve actually lost about 4 lbs, despite not actually trying.

Soooo - when can I expect my thyroid to respond and shrink? Its not really a life or death thing, but it’s rather annoying.

Thanks!

Apparently it takes more than one pill to make it smaller. Sorry to be flip but i couldn’t resist. Your doctor is in the best position to know how long your thyroid function has been normal and when you can expect it to shrink.

Excuse me, I’ve taken 50 pills and it still hasn’t gone down, so there! :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyhow - I know it will go down. She said it will go down, I’m just wondering what the usual time is, and scheduling a Drs appt. to ask her a silly question seems dumb, when someone here may be able to answer it.

So. How long then? (Ballpark is fine).
