We all know that over the past several years the big time Talkshow hosts (Leno, Letterman, Conan, etc.) have been brutal to Michael Jackson—Pedophile jokes, botched plastic surgery jokes, beastiality rave-ups, you name it, M.J. was a top laugh getter, probably up there with Bush, Cheney, Lohan and Federline…
How soon will they start up again?
Will they lay off for a while, or strike while the iron is white hot?
As it happens, the big talkshows all seem to be in re-runs this week; I was looking forward to see what Craig Ferguson would have to say, (I usually like his opening stand up bit the best of all of them) but he is also apparently on vacation this week.
I’d be amazed if British hosts like Graham Norton and Jonathon Ross didn’t take the first opportunity to make Michael Jackson jokes on their shows. (I’m not sure if Norton has a show on right now, but Ross does).
He was talking with Billy Bob Thorton and he made some remark about Michael Jackson, and something else was obviously edited out of it when I came across it on Monday night. It was something nudge-nudge wink-wink, but I can’t remember what it was. I’d be curious to hear what exactly was said and what was edited out.
I think Michael Jackson jokes an late night tv will be as rare as Anna Nicole Smith jokes. They’re too tragic now, and I sincerely doubt you’ll hear anywhere other than roasts, where the comedians are trying to be offensive and tasteless.
He’s not on vacation, per se, but on a USO tour. He was talking all last week (in pre-recorded shows) about being in Kosovo and Germany, along with some other countries.
When the news broke, I also wondered what he’d say, but I guess we have to wait to see. He made fun of him quite a bit on the show…
Weirdo or not, he was still a major figure in history. I think that if the shows weren’t on hiatus right now, there would be a lot more jokes. By the time they come back, it will (hopefully) have quited down. I’m sure there will still be jokes… and they’ll start once the shows come back.
That was his only mention in the monologue. He also talked a little bit with Snoop Dogg about Snoop Dogg’s memories of working with MJ. No jokes, though.
Probably the closest to making jokes would be Gred Gutfeld on Red Eye, but he was more making fun of the hooplah than MJ himself. Things like saying there’s been a lot about the death of a great talent in the news recently, then showing a picture of Fred Travolina.
