Yeah, that’s the attitude that drove me raging out of the pro-life movement.
If the human soul is sacred, fine, be concerned about the soul. But Jesus did not teach us to mistake the body for the soul. A human body is dust, an animal form. A single mortal animal form, even that of a human or a demigod, can never be worth as much as a genus of life.
IMHO All the animals that were sacrificed under the OT laws, which God allowed, could not atone for a single human’s sin (which is why Jesus is needed). This shows the value of animals to that of mankind in the eyes of God. If animals are indeed ‘sinless’, there is also no justification for their death, which God will raise them up again despite the death man inflicts on them. If it can be said that animals ‘sin’, they will be resurrected when God restores all things, for as man is restored to God, those under man’s dominion (animals) will also be restored, and it is clear from Adam and Eve and Noah and other places that God created animals for man and wants us to have them.
