How many attempts through the Chunnel are successful i.e. no arrests? Are there any statistics?

Hi

According to the following article from “Der Spiegel” “seven out of 10 migrants made it through the tunnel within four months.” Are are of these people arrested? Are all those arrested returned to France?
I look forward to your feedback

The Eurotunnel is a source of death and freedom. Merhawi knows this. So does Abud. But they also know the stories from people who have made it. On the English side, in Kent, authorities have picked up 400 migrants in the past five weeks. The British chief of police says seven out of 10 migrants made it through the tunnel within four months.

According to this Guardian report/interview refugees/migrants successful enough to make it through to Britain are granted asylum.

From the article: “Two other Sudanese migrants, both in their 30s, were recovering in hospital after being struck by high-speed trains on Monday.”

Those are some tough Sudanese!

How hard is it to guard a 31 mile long tube…Surely you could install sensors, the sensors would be connected to track sensors. Whenever a train passes, the track sensor would turn off the laser or infrared “people” sensor located a hundred meters or so ahead.

This way, the sensors wouldn’t be tripped by trains, only by people sneaking down the track.

They don’t walk along the tracks. They try for instance to hide in a vehicle loaded on a train. I wouldn’t be surprised if some tried to ride the train by holding on something outside it, though, assuming that it’s remotely possible.

These guys are pretty determined. Most of the trains going through the Tunnel (not “Chunnel” please) are Le Shuttle. They carry cars and trucks on different trains. The cars are in enclosed carriages and the drivers do not stay in their vehicles.
Car Carrier

Trucks are in more open carriages and the again the drivers do not stay in their cabs.
Truck Carrier

Trucks are the main target for the migrants. They hide in the cargo, climb on the roof and hide under the wind deflectors, they even perch on the axles under the trailers.

Once they are in, sending them back to France is not generally an option. They usually destroy any papers they have so that their country of origin cannot be proved. This means that the poor old British taxpayer has to feed, cloth and house them.

How did they get into France?

Could the British taxpayers fund a program to turn these guys into assets instead of liabilities, and get their money back? I never did understand why that wouldn’t work. Suppose you have an unemployed person. In both USA and Britain, you just tell em to get a job (they usually don’t have marketable skills so you are wasting your breath, and those job search agencies often fail) and/or give em money and food until they do. (Britain obviously gives a lot more)

Why don’t you find a skill actually needed and pay to train them up. Reward them for attending training and passing tests with more money and food. Reward them when they get a job, make sure they actually do get a job if there is no credible reason not to give them one. Gradually wean them off the welfare and don’t have a system where working means they make less. Collect your money back by an extra tax on them for the next 20 years of their working career…

Note the part about “Destroying Papers”.

Given the urgency of escaping the Hellholes these folks are coming from, the legal immigration process takes too long.

So the papers they end up destroying include diplomas and certificates.

All you know for certain when one of these people show up:

  1. They are alive
  2. They are both desperate and determined.

Their language will tell you the general area, and even if you can identify the exact village, the only ones that the home country would accept are the ones that country wants to punish/kill.
Which means they are qualified for political asylum.
