How many calories does jumping rope burn per minute?

I am trying to lose weight and get in shape, and I have been jumping rope for 15 minutes. I do this at a fairly fast pace: if I jump little faster I usually hear the rope cutting through the air.

My question is, how many kilocalories does jumping rope at a fairly fast pace burn per minute ? (I am 5’4 and weigh 140 pounds, male). By the way, I also plan to lengthen my workout to 30-40 minutes, not just 15 minutes.

How many jumps do you get in those 15 minutes?

According to this site, I’d probably burn about 750-800 calories per hour, or 12.5-13.3 per minute. So 30 minutes of jumproping would be about 350-400 calories.

Er, this site.

Headcoat: I have no idea, I jump faster than I can count (since I’m fatigued I don’t really want to count anyway). Maybe 2 per second?

I consider myself to be pretty fit (weightlift and run regularly), and I can’t do more than 500 reps at once. Less than five minutes.

How’d you get to that?

I jumped rope 3 times a week for 3 months.

That is some stanima.
Never realized how many calories jumping rope burns either. Wow. Might have to get me some of that.

Stamina I should say.

Well, if the girl who is jumping rope is pretty, & has “huge tracts of land”, I think I’d burn lots of calories, just by watching.

Of course, the calories burned per minute depend on your weight, body composition, and cardiovascular fitness, but any way you slice it, jumping rope is a pretty intense activity. I wish I didn’t have neighbors downstairs.
