We have 3. Two sweet, shy, girls, 11 and 10 years old, respectively, and a 3 year old male, bully. He decided he was king of the house when he weighed 4 ounces, he’s only gotten worse with age and size.
The older female get along fine with the bully, but he terrorizes my shy, little, 'Lil.
One now. I adopted two shelter kittens in 1992. We lost one of them about 3 years ago after a battle with kidney problems. We still have the other one (now almost 19 years old) and she’s hanging in there pretty well. She’s starting to show signs of kidney problems and general aging (moves slow, not a lot of energy) but she still seems fairly happy, and she’s as big a lap hog as ever. I don’t think that she’d react well to adding a new cat to the mix, so she’s going to be the only cat in the house for the remainder of her days.
Our two are short-hairs, too - one doesn’t shed too badly; the other one is like Pigpen from the Peanuts gang - she always seems to have a cloud of shed hair around her.
