I’ve always made it a hobby to visit college campuses I am near when I travel. I really should sit down some day and make a list, I’m sure it would be over 100.

Here’s a few that maybe no one else has listed.

Michigan Tech
U of Portland
Virginia Tech
Florida Keys Community College
North Central College
Elmhurst College
Texas Woman’s University
Mercer University
Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine
U of Wisconsin, Whitewater

Hmmm. Off the top of my head:

USA
UC Berkeley
UC San Diego
UC Santa Cruz
UCLA
San Diego State
San Francisco State
Stanford
Cal State Northridge
Southern Illinois University
Harvard

UK
UEA Norwich
Cambridge
University of Manchester

I go to lots of museums, so I imagine there are a number of museums I’ve visited that were on campus (especially in urban areas) that I’m not recalling. Also, I think we visited a few college campuses in my marching band days.

UNC-Chapel Hill - went to school here, worked there after graduation
Duke - worked a summer or two teaching middle schoolers on campus
NC State - visiting friends
Princeton - used to live nearby
Virginia Tech - toured here after being accepted as a freshman
Vanderbilt - I live nearby now
Belmont University - Nashville - also nearby
Middle Tennessee State University - nearby, did teleconference there once
Pensacola Junior College - conference trip
University of Central Florida - boss went to school here - we visited while on business in the area
Eastern Kentucky University - Richmond - conference trip
UNC-Charlotte - used to live nearby

possibly a few others I’ve forgotten

At least:
Vanderbilt - alma mater
Montana State University - other alma mater
University of Great Falls

Univeristy of Illinois Urabana-Champagne

and probably others I’m not thinking of right now

Well, not a lot. Since you’re looking for some sort of breakdown:

Places I’ve attended:
Juniata College
New Mexico State University

Places I’ve visited as a prospective student:
New Mexico Tech
Allegheny College
Wooster College
One other small college in Ohio but I can’t remember the name

Places I’ve been for whatever reason:
Colorado University
University of New Mexico
US Air Force Academy
US Naval Academy
Clemson
University of South Carolina
University of Maryland
Penn State

I guess that’s it. The only reason I’ve been on the Air Force Academy and CU was because of band in high school. Clemson, South Carolina, and Maryland are because my parents are alumni. The Naval Academy is because of friends who live near Annapolis–kind of touristy to see the chapel and the museum, if nothing else. Penn State mostly because I took the chem GRE there, though I did have other reasons to head up to State College occasionally. Never went to watch a football game, though. UNM because it’s in Albuquerque with various reasons to go on the campus at times.

Ooh, I can do well in this one!

…so excited I hit the reply button early.

So let’s start with unis I visited as a child:

  1. Oxford University
  2. Cambridge University

And places I visited as a high schooler:
3. Texas A&M

18. University of Memphis

Then places where I worked or attended for grad school:
19. Harvard University (grad)
20. MIT
21. Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
22. Emory University

Then places I have conducted field work, job talks, or conferences, or just plain ol’ visited:
23. University of Reading

25. University of New Mexico
26. Cal State Los Angeles
27. UCLA
28. UC San Diego
29. San Diego State University

51. University of Pennsylvania
52. New York University
53. Vanderbilt University
54. Georgia State University

I didn’t count medical schools or community colleges, and I’ve visited or conducted research at a few of those. I’m a higher ed researcher so I might have an advantage here…

California University of Pennsylvania (attended, undergrad)
Seton Hill University (attended, grad school)
Indiana University of Pennsylvania (summer writing program)
Chatham College (saw a show there)
Penn State, Fayette County campus (forensics tournament)
University of Pittsburgh (if you live in Pittsburgh, you’ve been there… also I technically work for them even though it’s not on campus)
Duquesne University (okay I only walked past it on the way to somewhere else)

And I saw Point Park University and Carlow College from the bus. Damn Pittsburgh has a lot of colleges.

Azusa Pacific University
Citrus College
Mt. San Antonio College
Chapman University
Cal Poly Pomona University
Pasadena City College
The Claremont Colleges

  1. Clarkson College (as a prospective student)
  2. WPI (as a prospective student)

  4. Yale (for several swim meets)
  5. Ohio State (sort of as a prospective student (we was in the area and my parents thought “what the hell, why not?”))
  6. UConn (for swim meets and as a prospective student)
  7. Wesleyan (for swim meets and just passing though)
  8. RIT (as an actual student, almost every day, especially in the Og-forsaken winters we have up here)

Some other small college in Minneapolis.

Which is 44, if any of them taught me to count. I have a sneaking suspicion I have forgotten some, too.

54 that I can remember just now. Some for social reasons, some professional, some a combination.

20 or more are in Virginia, the total upped by the fact that I was Tour Guide and General Dogsbody for a group of guidance counselors taking a bus tour of independent colleges and universities. That got me onto some campuses I doubt I’d have seen otherwise (St. Pauls comes to mind!)

Not very many, but I have a few no one else has mentioned, or probably even heard of.
