Somehow I got to thinking about this the other day. I realized that, for someone who wasn’t involved in sports or any other intercollegiate activity, I have been to quite a few college campuses.
These would be:
- Northwestern University (Evanston, IL) - I was born in Evanston and visited the place a few years back.
- San Diego State University (CA) - My dad went there when I was quite young and my mom occasionally met him there with me in tow.
Despite the two listings above, I grew up primarily in Oklahoma so all of the following are Oklahoma:
3. Central State (now University of Central Oklahoma) - High school band contests and other outings took me here.
4. Philips University (Enid, OK) - More high school band contests.
5. OSU (Stillwater, OK) - More high school band contests.
6. OU (Norman, OK) - Visited for any number of reasons, but never for a high school band contest. Odd.
7. St. Gregory’s (Shawnee, OK) - This is where I actually started my college days.
8. Oklahoma Baptist (Shawnee, OK) - Down the street from SG, I also attended some classes here.
From there I continued my university education at:
9. University of Texas (Austin, TX)
Other miscellaneous:
10. St. Edwards University (Austin, TX) - Attended some event there. I forget what for.
11. University of Dallas (Dallas, TX) - My sister went here and I visited on occasion.
12. SMU (Dallas, TX) - I still go there for the occasional cultural event.
13. TCU (Fort Worth, TX) - I went there for something once. I forget.
14. NYCU (New York, NY) - A company I was working for installed some custom software there and sent me for initial consulting.
15. Penn State (State College, PA) - When I was working for Raytheon they had an office in State College and I went there once. The office wasn’t near campus, but for some reason the hotel they put us up in was RIGHT on the main drag. Go figure.
I have driven through College Station, TX and been near A&M, but never actually set foot on the campus itself, so I don’t count that. So my total’s 15. That should be easy to beat for any of you out there that was a jock or band member, etc., in college.
