How many executioms will the military tribunals order?

By the end of 2008 and the end of the Bush presidency, how many terrorists, enemy combatants, insurgents, or poor schlubs will be sentenced to death by US military tribunals? How many sentenceswill be carried out by then?

This whole system was slapped together to put their prisoners on a conveyor belt to rock breaking or execution, with your occasional lucky winner in the “catch and release” lotto. I think that another reason there is such a rush for the legislation is the administration’s distrust that some pussy Democrat administration of the future won’t have the guts to execute them. So they have to git 'er done now.

BTW, prisoners they have killed already or will kill during interrogation don’t count.

I’m gonna guess somewhere between 29 and 50 will be sentenced, and between 3 and 12 will be actually executed, more likely on the low end. The Democarat will start to scream that they “,wouldn’t have voted for this had they known…” which is obscene as if they didn’t understand that they were voting for a fig leaf over a licence to kill they are idiots. Ok, well maybe they didn’t understand…

My guess is that the vast majority of detainees won’t be tried or even declared enemy combatants, they’ll just be disappeared until the election is over. The trick of the new bill is that if you never declare them as anything you don’t actually have to give them any judicial review - whether kangaroo tribunal or not. Actually charging or trying the detainees gives them a few more rights and brings attention to them, which I don’t think the U.S. wants.

Though there may be one or two carefully controlled show trials for our benefit. No more than three. At least one of these will not end in an execution to show how civilized we are.

If democrats are elected in 2008, the current administration is screwed anyway, and if Republicans are elected, the police state goes on, so either way a bloodbath isn’t going to help them.

I would venture to say that if the Republicans lose control, you will see little or no military tribunals at all. If there are to be any tribunals, they will only be for the more high profile cases/prisoners.

If the Republicans are able to stay in the majority, I don’t think there will be anyone put to death, but there will be military tribunals. Otherwise, the terrorists win!

Bush also wants to push the detainee and tribunal legislation through in this term of Congress because he fears he won’t have the votes in the next. I am presupposing the legislation will get through in the few weeks remaining before the elections, so Bush will have the power he needs regardless of what happens in a month.

P could be wrong about this, and everything else, of course.

Actually the rush to legislation is to counter the SCOTUS Hamden decision. Bush and company would face potential war crimes and impeachment if the Congress were to go Democratic in both Houses.
