How many high profile "racial commentary" events in McNabb's career from now on?

Rush Limbaugh accused McNabb of being overrated because the media wants a successful black quarterback.

Now the philadelpia NAACP leader accuses McNabb of being an Uncle Tom for not scrambling enough.

What is it about McNabb that he gets all these absure race based comments from major figures?

What is your guess? Will McNabb have more of these events in his career or are we done now?

WAG, McNabb gets these comments more then Vick or Culpepper because he is a much better QB then the rest of the black QBs in the league. He has had more success. Another reason is because of the market he is in. Philly is a much bigger market, and the Eagles have consistently been one of the more nationally televised teams recently. This leads to more exposure. More exposure means more people will attempt to ride on your coattails with whatever issues they want to raise. I haven’t heard about the NAACP thing. Do you have a link by chance? Did the president really say he was an uncle tom because he doesn’t scramble as much? So black QBs can’t become pocket passers? Leftwich doesn’t scramble much, McNair no longer scrambles that much.

I think he will continue to have these incidents in his career. His career has really been one incident after another none of which have been started by him, starting with his draft day. For this reason I respect McNabb a lot.

There’s already a Pit thread on this. If you read the comments at this site and others, you’ll see that a significant number of people buy into the Uncle Tom BS. So long as some people think Allen Iverson is a more “authentic” black man than McNabb, he’ll keep hearing this crap.

Has Vegas set a line on this yet? If they go higher than seven, I think I’ll take the under.

It’s a damn shame in some ways, because Donovan McNabb seems like a good man.

I half agreed with Rush Limbaugh, however- I did think McNabb was overrated, but NOT because he was black! That was an idiotic theory, for which LImbaugh deserved to be canned. But I DO think McNabb was overrated for the same reason Michael Vick is overrated: they were EXCITING players!

A few years ago, even in games where McNabb didn’t play well, you could count on him to make one or two amazing plays, plays that would make all the highleet reels, plays that would make you sit up and say, “Whoa, did he really do what I just thought I saw him do?” Plays like that made people take notice, and also made many people think he was better than he was (he frequently followed amazing plays with pitiful underthrows to wide-open receivers).

Last year (the year following Limbaugh’s rant) was, in my opinion, McNabb’s best year. He really seemed to be coming into his own. He seemed to be finding the right balance between running and throwing. It’s sad that his injuries and the T.O. mess have ruined this season for him.

Of course, as a Giants fan, I can’t pretend to be TOO sad.
