How many people here have their own car

Im new here. How many people here have their own car. If so, what are you driving and why?

I gave my car to the Kidney Foundation.

Now I take the bus. Ahhh, bus fumes in the morning…

I have a car, a little Dodge Shadow. Why? It’s sure not because I enjoy driving. I have one because there’s no public transportation and I live in the middle of nowhere. Biking or walking 18 miles (rt) to the grocery store or 40 miles to work just isn’t practical.

My wife and I each drive a mid-sized SUV. And we have a plow truck.

The truck is old, and rarely leaves our property.

And welcome Starguard the SDMB (Straight Dope) is an amazing place.

No car here.

2002 camry LE .

It was affordable but still nice. It’s a good car overall.

I’ve got a car and my husband has one too. No public transportation nearby.

Why do you ask?

I have three so far (only one is drivable though :o). One is a 94 Dodge Intepid that needs new tie rods and a wheel alignment. That one is just sitting in my sisters garage collecting dust, The second one is a 96 Ford Taurus (with 145,000 miles on it :o ) and the last one (my baby) is a 1968 Chevy Camaro that I’m presently building a new engine for. " the third one in six years".

My seemingly lifelong dream is to someday get all three of these things on the road again at the same time, but so far this doesnt seem to want to happen for some reason…man Ill tell ya, when it comes to cars, sometimes I think that if it wasn’t for bad luck, I wouldn’t have any luck at all:smack:

Well, there is zero public transportation here and Mr. MLS loves cars. We each have a car to drive. We also have a pickup truck (old) for odd hauling jobs. We also have 3 Sting Rays (one of which runs), an Intrepid, a '34 Hudson, an old '60s Cadillac, and a VW bug that is due for the junkyard. That’s all I can think of right now. We just got rid of 2 Mustangs. Our daughter lives with us and she has her own car, too.

yep, 2002 Jeep Liberty. I got tired of getting stuck in the damn snow.

I have a car. Actually, these days, I have two. I’ll be selling one off, once I unload all the crap in the trunk. And that might be a while, since I’m still recovering from foot surgery and walking isn’t too much fun right now.

I’ve got a 1995 Toyota Corolla now, and I’ll be selling off my 1990 Honda Civic.

I’ve got a 1994 Suzuki Swift, bought used in 1996 (with only 6900 miles on it then - basically new but not at a new price). It now has almost 120k and runs great.

There is public transport where I live, but only bus, no rail, and the buses don’t necessarily go where I need to go. Plus, the car’s cheap to run - I maybe spend $20 a month on gas when it’s over $1.50 a gallon, and most months I doubt that I spend that much. And I like driving a lot.

1991 Honda Accord. There’s no such thing as public transportation up here.

1990something Dodge Caravan. We have public transportation here, but the busses only run once an hour.

1993 Toyota Camry LE. I just put in a new transmission (but hey, I bought it off a little old lady and it only has 77,000 on it, so it was worth it). I live in the boonies and have to drive to work. I also like driving and not having to carry grocery bags on the bus or rely on other people for favors when I need to go somewhere.

Also, I like driving.

2003 Volkswagen GTI, 1984 Mazda RX-7, and 1974 Porsche 914. I’ve been obsessed with sports cars for as long as I can remember. I enjoy driving … it’s all about the journey, not the destination, and I want to have fun along the way.

Oh, right. I forgot to mention why I own a car.

Public transportation is a joke here (you can use it if you must–I did for years–but there are lots of cool places you can’t go and lots of good-paying jobs you can’t have if you don’t have your own horse.)

1999 ford ranger.

I own a car because i used to live in a town where college and the grocery store were 25 miles away. i now live in a town where they are 3 and 6 miles away respectively, but im still keeping it because i prefer it to walking or biking, esp when its 10 degrees out like right now.
