Haven’t dealt with the little buggers (no pun, etc.) in some time, but this new house we’re in is having a problem with 'em.
So we went and bought those black disc-looking things? That they’re supposed to crawl into and die? (“Roaches check in. They don’t check out!”), and I’m thinking that it must get pretty crowded in there, and we probably need to keep them replaced.
Or have I got that wrong?
Thanks

I too have often wondered this.
I don’t think the little black discs are roach motels – they contain poisons that are meant to repel roaches. At least, those are what I have. They aren’t supposed to collect bodies.
Roach Motels attract with a scent and have a sticky trap as far as what i can tell.
Be nice if a little “No Vacancy” sign could flip up, when they’re totally out of room (s).
Thanks!

I thought the black discs contained poisoned bait that the little buggers would bring back to their nests.
That’s how it works with the similar-looking ant traps I have.
Yeah, it’s not an instantaneous death, and I don’t think there’s a one-way valve or anything that would physically block them from leaving. Part of the point, I believe, is that roaches are so opportunistic that they cannibalize, so in eating a dead roach that has injested the bait, they are themselves killed as well, extending the benefits of the poison.
Cycle of life. Sorta.
(Standard disclaimer to keep the poison away from pets and children.)
Oh, and Quasi? If you sprinkle boric acid powder (it’s often sold spcifically as “Ant & Roach Killer” - a white powder, look for it on the same shelf as the roach motels) around crevices, behind the fridge, etc. it’ll help a lot with the problem as well.
