Presently I have 3 task bars on my computer. Is that too many? It doesn’t seem to affect the performance of my computer.
You mean the task bar on the bottom of your screen is 3 times the height it would normally be?
Then no, that shouldn’t hurt anything that I can think of.
If that’s not what you’re talking about, please describe what you mean by “3 task bars”.
I have three Clark Bars next to my computer, but don’t notice any change in performance.
It’s at the top, not bottom, of my screen. One is by Yahoo, one is by Google and one is by Weatherbug. And they all have extra options on it, like immediate access to email, immediate access to search engines, pop up blocker option, etc. And as I’ve said, it doesn’t seem to be doing any harm…
I’m going to assume he means “taskbar buttons”
And generally, no it shouldn’t.
But we need more specifics. Especially the processor speed and amount of RAM in your system. More RAM lets you engage in more tasks without slowing down.
As for me, I often have 10 or 15 taskbar buttons at the same time. Usually some Outlook, Winamp, Photoshop, a MS Office program or two, and half a dozen browser windows. Most of the time, it doesn’t bog me down too bad (although Photoshop can be a major resource hog)
Oops, shoudl have previewed.
I’m still not sure what the OP means… at the top, you say? And not the normal “Start” bar in Windows
That brings up a good point. You should mention what operatig system you’re using. Windows? Or something else?
Please refer to the sticky in the General Questions forum that says “Have a Computer Question? Read this first!”
It sounds to me like you’re talking about toolbars. I know Google and Yahoo each have their own toolbar.
The real problem with toolbars is the spyware that’s associated with them. The only weatherbug I’m familiar with is huge on the spyware. I think Yahoo is too.

Yeah, you mean Browser Toolbars not taskbars.
They’re just little add ons to your browser, can’t hurt anything if you like them. Just beware that, as Enright says, beyond Google, MSN and Yahoo toolbars most others are simply spyware/adware/malware infested and will take over your browser if not your entire machine.
My only beefs with the Yahoo toolbar is that it’s pretty slow on a dialup connection because it’s constantly connecting to the server to get info. Google doesn’t seem to do any connecting.
As for spyware in Yahoo, I found a few articles here about the “controversy”. Decide for yourself.
Oh, and for “how many is too many?” It’s a personal preference for sure. But if you’ve got all of the IE toolbars showing AND all of these extra toolbars, you are eating up some serious web-browsing real estate so please don’t start complaining to web designers about how you always have to scroll to read stuff
For Og’s sake, don’t eat 'em. That could decrease your power production level, and increase your 40-yard times.
I acutally do have three task bars on my screen right now, but I’m using KDE under Linux. They’re very useful, especially since one contains system information and an RSS crawl. My system is more than up to the task (Pentium-M with about a gig of RAM).
I’d love to know how you get multiple task bars under Windows.
I’ve been to Task’s Bar 3 times today, it hasn’t affected my PC’s performance.
