None. I don’t even know what happens if you “subscribe”. I can sort of guess, but I’ve never looked into it.
Since I have the option set to subscribe to all threads I post to, this will make 2171.
This is the reason I have the option checked. It makes it trivially easy for me to identify threads that I’ve posted to.
I also have all notifications turned off.
None. I just check out the threads and look at the ones that might be interesting. I remember which ones I’ve posted to. This sort of internet participation is fun but ephemeral. I go without checking the dope for a week or two, and I don’t feel the need to catch up or follow posts when I am busy with things IRL.
None. I accidentally subscribed to a thread via Tapatalk the other day, but luckily the email went to an account I rarely check, so I wasn’t bothered by it.
The way I use the board there is no need for me to subscribe, and it’s not useful.

It had been 21, but it’s now 16. I subscribe mostly to season-long threads of TV shows I watch, so I can find them once a week if no one else has bumped them. Plus a few ancient threads that I want to be able to find for whatever reason – questions I’d asked, etc.
I definitely subscribe without getting updates – I get way too much SDMB email anyway.
I only subscribe to a thread once it’s locked, just to stick it to the man.
I have been around since 2004 (although not very active for several years after that - but, then again, lurking for some time before) and I have never subscribed to a single thread. Offhand, I do not even know how to do it, or what the result would be if I did.

5259 (including this one). I’m set to automatically subscribe to any thread I post to (no emails). I think a lot of us did that when the board went to 5 minute searches. It was sort of a workaround way to find threads you’ve posted to and to keep track of very active threads since vanity searches and the New Posts button don’t work fast enough with the time limit.
But keep in mind, even though I’m subscribed to over 5000 threads, when I hit User CP only 4 or 5 threads typically pop up, it’s not that all 5000 come up (unless I hit List Subscriptions) so there’s no reason to unsubscribe. The only time I do that is if I lose interest in a thread that’s very active and showing no signs of dying down and I’m getting sick of seeing it all the time. But even then I usually just ignore it.
