You just know if there was it would be complained about by the zombie-lovers
I know that. But if you turn off the email notifications then what benefit do you gain from subscribing to a thread? Honestly, I just don’t get it.
Zero. I’m not even sure what subscribing to a thread does.
When I look at my CP, I can see all the threads I’ve posted in that are currently active. It’s less effort than always having to vanity search, I’m assured that every thread I posted to is present in the CP, something I’m not sure the search engine always does, and if I know I’ve posted to a thread, it’s far easier to search for a title keyword in the CP with ctrl+f than to do a site search.
And when I look at the “new posts” tab, which is how I browse all the time, every thread I posted in has a checkmark next to it.
I don’t always remember when I post in a thread. Or sometimes I’ll ask a question and a week later it gets answered and bumped. Or on the weekend, when I am not on the boards.
This is why I love the SDMB - a thread which could have just been a dull list of numbers, has turned into an interesting discussion of how people follow threads differently, with useful tips.
Cheers everyone!
I am subscribed to one thread. From 2001. What’s really awesome is that it’s a thread where I exposed my ignorance and is the poster child of inability to accept my ignorance. I learned a lot after that, but I still cringed as I reread it
Now, it’s 35 threads.
Including this one.
- I tried it for a while back in 2008, but found it annoying to get emails with thread updates that were often out of date by the time I got them. I stopped, but occasionally get an update on a bumped thread.
I removed email alerts. Otherwise you go crazy.
“Go”?
(I get email alerts, for near 400 threads. I think only about 20 are currently active though.)
:), and, why???
Up to 50 now.
Did you get an email for this? :smack:
Partly to remind me to check in on a thread, partly to keep me up to date with what’s going on in it if I’m away from the SDMB for a while.
Since starting this thread I’ve tried going to the “Subscribed threads” page in User CP, or whatever it’s called, but generally, getting the email and clicking the enclosed link to go straight to the active thread (and then browse the rest of the board afterwards) works well for me.
Yup. Hence the prompt-ish reply!
I am subscribed to over 9,000 threads, and i don’t get email or PMs. The nice thing about tracking threads through the user control panel is, you can refresh it as often as you want. If you do a vanity search, you have to wait two minutes.
Yes, some of us were referring to this up-thread as “Anaamika’s method”. It works well.
ETA: We can also refer to it as Fear Itself’s method!
No me!!! I’ll fight her for it!
I’ll back you up!
P.S. - I think FI is a dude (from this picture).
3½ months later, it’s now 277.
One of us! One of us!
Huh? From the link I am subscribe to 39. How that happened I have no idea. I don’t get any emails from the dope and certainly don’t want any.
