The American middle class can send their kids to private schools?
Why not? My school even had a number of scholarships for kids. The Harley School of Rochester NY. Great montessori private school, and more than worth the money for the tuition. If you have a kid that is significanly smarter than the norm it would be seriously criminal not to get them into a private school if at all possible. Nothing quite as enlightening as switching from a public school that had 1 teacher per 30-40 kids to one where the classes were 1 teacher to 5-10 kids [except my spanish class which was me and the teacher=)] Of course the major drawback was that our football team sucked so badly we were cordially invited not to bother … but there was 1 person in my graduating class of 51 that didnt go to university after graduating…she went and got married. The Harley School
Yes, but enough for every member of the “American middle class” to seriously consider sending their kids to private schools (which ruadh seemed to be indicating)? Scholarships are nice, but for most people in the “middle class”, private schools simply aren’t a real option.
That’s what I was thinking; you continental people kiss when you greet each other?
Mathochist, you may notice I said upper middle class.
Class isn’t always to do with money. I’d say I’m from the lower-mid middle class in the UK, and there was no way in hell my parents could have afforded private education for me or my siblings. We weren’t poor, but we weren’t rich either. I grew up in a private, but very undistinguished, house on a housing estate, went to state school all my life, and I’ve had to work for everything I’ve ever owned - no trust funds or cars for me. Despite this, I’m definitely middle class, I have a fairly posh accent, and me and my friends kiss people on the cheek as a greeting.
