How many unassisted pull-ups and dips can you do?

nm

That sounds like no kind of fun at all. I don’t even want to know, but probably less than five. I’m more of a swimmer than a puller-upper.

Well I just have to say then that that is an absolutely amazing feat. Amazing. In all my years being a gymrat, in all the various gyms I’ve worked out in, with all the different types of well-conditioned athletes at the top of their games I’ve been around, I’ve seen such a feat accomplished once. And to think, there are several Dopers here who can do that, and then some!!
The only reason I can do 30+ bodyweight pullups is because of the relatively unique structure of my body and the advantage it gives me for the exercise. I am a paraplegic who has a lot of muscular development on my upper body, very little body fat, and extreme atrophy of my legs and lower body. This combination of lots of muscle to pull with, not a lot of weight to be pulled, allows me to do very high reps of the exercise if I were to do bodyweight resistance alone.

But it’s reps with an *. I do my normal pullups while strapped into my wheelchair. I have a long rope hanging from the pullup bar which I climb up to get myself (in my chair) up to the bar. From that point I do my set. Then I drop to the ground. The climbing itself is actually the hardest part of it all. In this scenario, if I don’t go too wide, I can do about 25-27 pullups (pushed to failure, first set). Bodyweight alone, I can do much more. But those don’t really count.

I am 55 years old and just broke the 12 and 24 hour pull up records by doing 4308 in 12 and 6737 in 24 hours…Age really does not matter

In march of 16 i9 will be
break the one minute GWR record before doing 8k+ for the remainder of the 24 hour period

I’m less than a month from my 62nd birthday, and female, if my username isn’t obvious enough. Even at my youngest and most fit, I could never do a pull-up - not even when I was in the Navy. I have no idea what a dip is, but it’s probably beyond me, especially if it involves upper body strength. (I’m at work so I’m reluctant to check the link.) I’ve always had weak arms. I could walk all day, but don’t ask me to lift something heavy to put it on a high shelf.

I used to be able to do about 20 pullups, now I might get 10. Don’t have a regular exercise routine.

Dips no idea.

0 and I have never been able to do any of these, not even when I was a kid.
