How many women have done porn?

I’m not talking about porn stars. I’m talking about the thousands of girls who do amateur, one-off internet pornos. The kind of porno that your (seemingly) normal, run-of-the-mill girlfriend could turn up in.

Actually, it’s entirely the sex thing. Most girls don’t possess volumes worth of video of all of their past sexcapades, and ignorance is bliss when it comes to someone’s past.

But finding footage of them engaged in the act is something I wouldn’t be able to get past, whether she regretted filming it or not.

So? Why is this so awful?

Well then help yourself to all the girls who have done porn!

I don’t see how not wanting to date someone who’s fucked in front of a camera is somehow horribly judgmental. A girl who would do that clearly possesses values that are not even within the same plane of existence as mine.

Really?

In this post you confess to watching amateur porn. In fact, you express a preference for amateur porn because it has “real girl[s].”

While watching may not be the same as performing, surely watching implies a certain set of values regarding the usefulness and the appeal of pornography? You might not be identical to a woman who has sex in front of a camera, but your willingness to watch also suggests that your values probably are, indeed, “within the same plane of existence.”

ETA: And what about a guy “who would do that”? Would you have any problem having a beer with a guy who had been in porn films?

If you’re going to be highly moralistic about something at least have the good grace to accept that you are, in fact, being highly moralistic.

I don’t understand why having sex on camera (for money or not) devalues a person.

Rigidity is a requirement for lectern and soapbox alike.

Whoa! What happened to this thread? Morals? planes of existence?

As A.I. would say,

Now I know that I’m supposed to lead by example and all that but I’m not shoving that aside like it don’t mean anything. I know it’s important, I honestly do but we’re talking about porn. We’re talking about porn man. We’re talking about porn. We’re talking about porn. We’re not talking about the game. We’re talking about porn. When you come to the arena, and you see me play, you’ve seen me play right, you’ve seen me give everything I’ve got, but we’re talking about porn right now.

Is that closely related to the Wookiee defense? (my youtube fu is weak. It’s a southpark clip)

So they cannot have lives, have families, fall in love? I have been seeing a woman who has been in some professional paid adult films. If you met her its one of the last things you would expect. Smart, quick witted, speaks four languages, and takes fabulous care of her children all of whom speak at least one language other than english. She could also give a few TV chefs a run for their money in the kitchen.

If you met her you would wonder how a doper got grafted to a soccer mom.

I just find it fascinating that the Straight Dope Science Advisory Board is the OP. I now have a vision of wild eyed Dopers wearing lab coats in a lab somewhere putting together the perfect porn actress as thunder crashes outside. “We have the data, now, now we can rule the internet.” (High-pitched, uncontroled hysterical laughter ensues.)

Sorry, when the real world does not satisfy me, imagination world kicks in.:stuck_out_tongue:

So Bricker, care to define “explict sex” - I’m assuming “on camera” means still work as well - but sex can be a tricky thing to define. Masterbation? With or without props?

Another question in the same vein is:

Have more women than men performed in porn?

At one time it was just one man one woman and you could say it was presumably equal.

But often there is videos with just women.
Any half decent looking woman woman can perform, but the population of men who are satisfactorily endowed and able to perform before the camera is much more limited and hence used more frequently. (I would think)

But then, gay porn is now extremely popular.

I’m comfortable with the 100,000 mark for women.
Somewhat less for men.

100k? seriously? I put the yearly world wide total easily over 100k if we include internet porn. Thats for sex, not just nudity. I’d put the total at about 20 to 30 million.

I heard somewhere (no cite) that 2% of the women in the Czech Republic work in the sex industry. There are 10.5 million people there so, if true, that’s a lot of ladies.

Why does the money factor in? If someone films themselves getting it on and posts it on a porn site isn’t that still porn?

Any activity that involves penetration of a body part by the body part of any other person. Any penetration, however slight.

I feel that’s still too narrow a definition. In my opinion, a woman masturbating on camera is making an explicit sex video even if the person she’s having sex with is herself.

Congratulations? I don’t see why you’re taking my unwillingness to date someone who has been in a porno to be a slight against your girlfriend. If I were to tell you that brunettes tend to be more my type, would you take offense to that also (assuming your girlfriend is blonde)?

If I stumbled across a girlfriend in a porno, it would probably make me sick, and I don’t think I’d be able to look at her the same way again. Whatever that might say about me, so be it. It’s how I feel. I apologize that I’m not as enlightened as you.

Well, considering I don’t date guys, there’s no chance of me stumbling upon a boyfriend in a porno. And if some guy decided to brag to me that he’s done porn, I don’t think I’d be high fiving him or anything.

There’s a difference between saying that you prefer brunettes, on the one hand, and saying that you would immediately dump a current girlfriend if she had done porn, on the other. If you don’t understand what the difference is, i probably can’t explain it to you.

It says quite a lot.

That’s OK. I’m sure you have some redeeming qualities.

I notice you completely ignored the issue of whether watching porn puts you on “the same plane of existence” as those who perform in it. I’m sure you have some sophistry you could use to wave away the similar values involved.

So I guess stumbling upon a video of your girlfriend getting fucked online would sit just fine with you? Nerves of steel I guess.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, in the…year since that post, my ever increasing bitterness, anxiety and insecurities have made it harder for me to watch porn in general. But you’re right, no one should watch porn unless they’re willing to date a pornstar.

Sorry, but your pornstar is made of straw.

Stumbling on video of my partner having sex on the internet would not be fine with me. But the reason would not be that she had had sex in front of a camera, but that she had not told me about it. We’ve been together 7 years, our relationship is built on trust, and if she had neglected to tell me about a past in porn, i would probably feel hurt and betrayed.

But this is quite different from your own position. You have made clear that you would not stay with a woman who had done porn, even if she told you about it at an appropriately early stage of the relationship.

Exactly.
