Loosely related to the pending marijuana legalization in Colorado and Washington, where the limit will be one ounce.
Are there any laws limiting the possession of alcohol? Could I stock my house with 2,000 bottles of grain alcohol? If I tried to buy them all at once, would the authorities intervene?
I’ve never heard of a limit, assuming it’s not obvious you’re reselling without a license. I’ve seen some pretty impressive wine cellars that seemed perfectly legal.
[QUOTE=W.Va. Code §60-3-21]
Limitation on amount to be sold.
Not more than ten gallons of alcoholic liquor shall be sold to a person at one time without the approval of the commissioner or his representative; but a sale in excess of ten gallons may be made to a religious organization purchasing wine for sacramental purposes, and sales in case lots may be made in the discretion of the commissioner: Provided, That this section shall not apply to private clubs as defined in article seven of this chapter.

Now, could you take it to your car, walk back in and buy 10 more gallons? Maybe…
I have never heard of a limit either, but grain alcohol isn’t legal in every state (or limited to ~150 proof).
Also, I think the reason behind the 1oz limit is to discourage resale. If the product isn’t illegal/highly restricted - there is no reason to really put a limit on it.
There may be limits on how much grain alcohol you can make (for fuel), provided you have a license, similar to the various limits on how much beer (wine/cider/mead) you can brew in a year.
If you have ever seen a photograph of a whiskey warehouse fire, then it would be clear that the amount of spirits you can have on site would be, at some point, a safety issue (or an insurance issue). But a legal issue? Good question.
